News just in from the show floor at Summer NAMM 2017 is that our friends at UK-based microphone brand Sontronics are announcing a new hand-held dynamic microphone.
We caught up with Sontronics founder and designer, Trevor Coley while at the show, who exclusively pre-revealed the details to Pro Tools Expert.
We’re hugely excited to announce our newest mic release, which is the Sontronics SOLO, a handheld supercardioid microphone, the first dynamic mic to be made in the UK.
SOLO builds on the amazing success of our multi-award-winning, British-made Aria and Mercury valve mics, and is the result of many months of testing and honing. The result is an incredible sounding mic that sounds fantastic for vocals, guitar amps and drums, both live and in the studio. In all the blind tests various engineers have carried out in all kinds of venues, SOLO has walked all over other dynamic mics that cost five or six times the price!
Speaking of price, Trevor confirmed to Pro Tools Expert that the new Sontronics SOLO will cost less than £100, which is unbelievable bearing in mind that this is a mic that has been designed, developed and made in the UK. Could this be the mic that puts an end to the domination of the Shure SM58 or Beta 58 on stage?
Solo is said to have loads of presence and depth. The tight super cardioid pattern with excellent side rejection should help this mic become a winner in live situations with stage monitors. The Solo feels solid but not weighty feel in the hand. Oh and did we mention that beautifully etched logo and name on the front? I can’t wait to try this out in the studio and live for vocals, guitar amps, maybe a bit of snare drum.
With full details soon to be revealed, and the mic available straight away, this sounds like a NAMM release definitely worth staying awake for!
