In this video, supported by Antelope Audio, Pro Tools Expert Technical Editor James Ivey takes a look at some of the latest Antelope Audio gear. James teams up with songwriter and guitarist Paul Sundt and they use the Antelope Orion Studio 2017 to track a song called Crazy Lady. The video is the story of recording this track, and how it was mixed using the new Antelope Audio AFX2DAW plug-in.
Recording
One of my personal goals for 2019 is to record more music and I have been working with Paul on a couple of band projects, but this time we wanted to see what would happen if we put something together as a duo. Crazy Lady was a song that Paul had originally written many years ago but we felt it could be the right track for this project.
Antelope Audio Gear
I really like it when I can create a recording using what I am going to call an “end-to-end” workflow. The drums, guitars and vocals were all recording using Antelope’s new Edge Solo, Edge Quadro Edge Duo, and Verge modelling microphones. The Orion Studio 2017 is both a USB and Thunderbolt interface and we used this hooked up to my MacBook Pro 2017.
AFX2DAW Plug-In
In mixing the track I wanted to only use the new Antelope AFX2DAW plug-in that allows an Antelope interface user to access the powerful FPGA effects engine that I have come to rely on when recording, but until now, have not been able to access for mixing. In the video you will also see I use 2 “stock” Avid plug-ins for reverb and some modulation effects but all the dynamics and EQ processing is from the ever growing selection of Antelope Audio FPGA modelled processors.
It’s All In The Tone
As I think you can see and hear in the video, the AFX2DAW plug-in is very easy to use. You can instantiate loads of them (depending on the Antelope Audio interface model you are using) and they sound really very good. I have used some of my favourites in the mix and I hope you enjoy both the song and the video.
