Antelope Audio has today announced the Zen Quadro Synergy Core. This new offering is a 14-in/10-out bus-powered dual-USB audio interface that incorporates several sophisticated features. It is designed to serve a wide array of creators with its compact and reasonably priced setup.
Technical Specifications and Features
The Zen Quadro is equipped with AD/DA converters boasting up to 130 dB dynamic range at 24-bit/192 kHz, which is notable for a bus-powered interface. These are the same converter chips found in Antelope Audio’s flagship Galaxy interfaces, coupled with their proprietary 64-bit AFC™ (Acoustically Focused Clocking) technology. This setup aims to deliver detailed sonic precision and an expansive stereo image.
The device includes four Discrete preamps based on a 6-transistor topology reminiscent of British and American analogue consoles from the late 20th century. These preamps are designed to capture sound with clarity and minimal noise, offering up to 75dB gain to accommodate a wide range of microphones.
Real-Time Processing Capabilities
Zen Quadro utilizes Synergy Core technology, which integrates DSP with FPGA chips to emulate analogue hardware components. This technology allows users to apply a suite of 37 effect plugins—including compressors, EQs, and guitar amps—during recording, streaming, or live performances. These plugins aim to replicate the analogue experience with minimal latency and without overloading the user’s CPU. The interface supports up to 48 mono effect instances across 6 input chains, essentially providing the capability of a multi-rack setup in a desktop format. Users can also purchase additional Synergy Core effects to expand their sound palette.
Connectivity and Usability
Featuring dual USB-C ports, the Zen Quadro enables signal routing and mix creation between two devices (Mac, PC, iOS with USB-C, or Android). This dual-USB setup also supports live streaming with a loopback feature, and it can charge a mobile device while powering the interface. For live and touring scenarios, the Zen Quadro can operate standalone, with on-device routing and mixer controls accessible via a colour display. Real-time FX settings can be saved and recalled directly from the device.
Expanded Audio Connections
The Zen Quadro supports further expansion through ADAT and S/PDIF, offering a total of 14 inputs and 10 outputs. Dual independent headphone outputs allow two users to listen to different cue mixes simultaneously. The DC-coupled analogue I/O also enables the integration of control voltage signals, making it suitable for modular synth setups.
Availability
The Zen Quadro Synergy Core will be available for purchase in May 2024, priced at 599 USD / 599 EUR.
