In this free tutorial, brought to you with the support of Avid, Pro Tools Expert team member Julian Rodgers shares his thoughts on how it is that the Pro Tools Dock acts as a very worthwhile, tactile extension of the free iOS PT | Control app and how, once you have understood that the Dock and the app are inseparable parts of the same system, the whole concept makes far more sense.
Eucon Configurability
The deep integration with Eucon, and the ability to customise the configuration of the Dock mean that giving a top to bottom guide to the Dock would be both difficult and arguable missing the point. However there are some easy wins available to the new user and the biggest challenge facing any Pro Tools Controller is fighting its way into the established working patterns of a Pro Tools user, and that means competing with the keyboard and mouse!
Competition For The Mouse and Keyboard
By concentrating on session navigation, track selection and particularly Pro Tools transport the Dock can quickly become the focus of your Pro Tools interaction and that is, in my experience, the biggest hurdle facing a hardware controller.
Watch out for the upcoming videos which will delve deeper but if you find yourself in front of a Dock, these features are a good place to start.
