European Sirens From SoundFuse
Giel van Geloven from SoundFuse has got in touch to tell us about a new library they have just released. European Sirens is a large collection of 320+ European sirens sound effects with 'aways', 'drive-by's' and 'arriving' sirens shot in different simultaneous perspectives. So often the larger commercial libraries have American sirens so Giel has decided to plug this hole with European Sirens.
European Sirens is priced at 125 Euros including Vat and is available from the SoundFuse store.
Dark SciFi Drones From SoundBits
Saro at SoundBits has let us know that they have released a new collection called Dark SciFi Drones which is a composite collection of disturbing and scary Futuristic Spaceship, Ambiences, SciFi Drones and organic surrealistic Alien-Atmospheres. They have created each drone to be 2 minutes long with versatile variations in each file.
Think of movies like “Alien”, “Event Horizon” “or games like “Dead Space”, “Doom 3″ or “Bioshock”. But you will also get the right feel and idea for other disturbing-cyberpunk and scary industrial spaces.
This library is a hybrid-production. A symbiosis of organic original field-recordings like Room Tones, Construction Sites, Traffic, Zoo-Animals, Fun-Fair, Motors, … and synthetic elements. Lot’s of spectral- and granular synthesis. And lot’s of Sound Design of course.
Dark SciFi Drones is currently only 25.20 Euros inc vat on the SoundBits web site and they are also going to be releasing a Dark SciFi Drones Construction Kit which splits the tracks into frequency layers. So you have better control and you can do your own mix of these elements.
Also you can combine and mix the different layers across the ambiences to create variations or easily do creative up-mixes to surround.

The Making Of Metal Groans And Slams
On the Sonniss blog there is a interesting article from Mattia Cellotto on how he found, recorded and assembled his Metal Groans and Slams collection that you can also find on the Sonniss web site.
While walking a busy street near the southern station of the city, I stumbled upon an interesting looking sculpture. Luckily I had my contact mics with me, which adhered perfectly to the bronze surface of the gong. Once all mics were attached, I started hitting the structure with light strikes. It felt like playing one of the coolest percussive instruments on the planet.
If you want to read more about Mattia's exploits then check out his article on the Sonniss blog.
