Following an issue raised on another Pro Tools forum, I realised that there is now no way to buy Pro Tools HD Native without having to buy a new HD interface as part of a bundle. This is a real pain for any user like me who already owns an HD interface on their HDX system, who might be considering buying an HD Native system for their laptop.
Alternatively if a user already had a 3rd party interface, they might not want to have to buy an interface to go with their HD Native system.
I have submited an idea to the Pro Tools Ideascale and if you agree that the interface should be unbundled then please log in and Agree and lets get this up the ranking.
It has been pointed out to me that HDX customers also cannnot buy an HDX system without having to buy an Avid interface, although existing HD users can exchange their TDM card system for an HDX card without having to buy an interface. It would be really nice if Avid would unlock the HD interface hardware so we can buy a 3rd party interface, just like they did with Pro Tools 9 when they unbundled the hardware from the software. This would enable HD and HDX users to chose to buy an Avid interface or one of the 3rd party interfaces from Apogee, Lynx, etc.
