So I got hold of a beta copy of Gobbler for Windows today and gave it a quick test run.
I had previously used the Mac version to backup a lot of my projects and upon installing and logging into My Gobbler account everything was still there and backed up, as expected. Since last using Gobbler I have bought a new portable hard drive for my laptop projects so I decided to add that drive to my account and backup its projects.
Gobbler scanned the drive pretty quickly and found all the projects, It automatically identified the ones that had already been uploaded previously when they had existed on my old drive backed up with the Mac version, These were highlighted with a little padlock logo to show that they were safe and secure on the cloud.
Any projects that had not yet been backed up did not show the padlock logo and in order to back them up I needed to manually right click on them and choose to backup.
Its quite apparent when running online backup software that you really do need to have a good internet connection, I am unfortunately suffering from a pretty slow connection at the moment of about 2mbps at best downstream and only about 300Kbps upstream and usually a lot worse so backing up does take a long time for me right now, bring on my iminent ISP upgrade!
I have only really spent a short amount of time playing with Gobbler for Windows so far but it seems stable enough and much like its Mac version brother in simplicity of operation.
There are some features missing and known bugs listed in the documentation, so it would be unfair to rate this beta version so early in its life, so I will continue to use it and see how things go and leave you with my encouraging first impressions.
