In this video review for Pro Tools Expert, Technical Editor and self-confessed microphone addict, James Ivey takes an up-close look at the new Mercury Valve Condenser microphone from British manufacturer Sontronics.
The Mercury is the companies latest creation and features a dual capsule which allows variable polar pattern selection. Mercury picks up where the multi-award winning Sontronics Aria leaves off with the best possible military grade 1% tolerance components and a 12AT7 valve.
The mic comes with a hard flight case as standard, as well as a Bamboo box for the mic itself. Signal and power cables to connect the mic to the PSU and the PSU mains power and shock-mount complete the package.
You will be able to tell that James really likes this microphone and the short track which features acoustic guitars and percussion just begins to show off just how stunning the Sontronics Mercury sounds. No EQ or Dynamics processing has been used in this review. Not on the voice-over or the instrumental track.
The UK street price for the Sontronics Mercury is £1,349 and the team at Sontronics are very proud and rightly so that this mic is made in Great Britain.
