The team at Universal Audio are very pleased to announce their new Thunderbolt 3 equipped Windows 10 compatible UAD-2 Satellite hardware accelerator in Octo or Quad power configurations.
Windows 10 Compatible Universal Audio UAD-2 Thunderbolt 3 Satellite DSP Accelerator
This announcement from Universal Audio is a big deal especially if you are a Windows 10 AND macOS UAD-2 user.
At last Windows users are no longer restricted to the USB Satellite hardware units, which were not supported by Mac OS.
For macOS users the good news is that you are no longer stuck in a world of converter cables using the Thunderbolt 1 UAD-2 Satellite units which then slowed down your Thunderbolt 2 or 3 computers.
The new UAD-2 Thunderbolt 3 edition is both Windows 10 and macOS compatible so no need to buy 2 different units depending on which machine you are working on.
DSP Power
Like the older UAD-2 Satellite range the new TB-3 version comes in both Quad (4) and Octo (8) SHARC DSP chip varieties. So if you like using only a couple of thirsty UAD-2 plug-ins on your mixes you might opt for the Quad, but if you rely on UAD-2 plug-ins a lot, you might want to opt for the Octo to give you maximum power.
Connectivity
The new UAD-2 TB-3 Satellite features two Thunderbolt 3 ports so the unit does not have to be the last item in the Thunderbolt chain. The external power supply is still connected via the 4 pin XLR style connector.
