Recently we reported that a reboot issue that mainly affected Avid Media Composers users was actually the result of disabling security options and a faulty Chrome Installer. Now it turns out that Chrome V77 has broken other audio devices including Source Connect Now from Source Elements. We have all the details.
Chrome 77 Introduces Audio Routing Bug
Source Elements reported the issue on their website. The statement says…
“Chrome version 77 has introduced a bug where certain audio devices do not allow you to receive a signal.”
Source Elements have investigated and following some tests, they report that there is a workaround BUT that you will need to do this every time you connect…
Set your output device in the Source-Connect Now settings drop-down menu to "Built-in output"
You should now see a signal.
You can now choose the output device you wish to use.
Not That Simple
However as Source-Connect Now users, one of our team members has suffered from this bug whilst there are other users on the team that have Chrome 77 that have not suffered from this issue.
Other Workarounds From Source Elements
Source Elements have two other recommendations…
Use the Opera browser.
You can use the downloadable standalone Source- Connect Now application.
