Our friends at Dynaudio recently ran a project at Denmark's second-largest music festival, Smukfest. "Unheard" was a mobile recording studio built into two shipping containers. This is similar in concept to the container-based studios made by SpaceCrate but this, as well as being a recording and performance space was glazed down one wall to allow an audience of festival-goers to watch the sessions in progress.
Unheard
The idea was to offer a platform to all the unheard talent out there. The unsigned or undiscovered musicians. To hear the inspiration and to see the structure see the video below.
The Gear
Of course the gear involved elevated this above the typical home studios these Unheard musicians might usually be recording in. The studio was based around an AX32 which used Dante for the recording system between the containers, MADI to patch to the audience PA system outside the studio along with AES and analogue lines. The cross point matrix in the AX32 can route up to 1500x1500 connections and with the pristine mic preamps and the monitoring flexibility offered by the MOM this system would have been a dream to operate. If they need to store it somewhere til next year I might be able to find room in my garden!
