10 years ago this year Russ Hughes started the AIR Users blog, which morphed into Pro Tools Expert in 2012. To celebrate our 10-year anniversary we ran a competition with a Pro Audio gear and software prize pot worth over $30,000. One of the prizes was a bundle from our friends at SX Pro.
The competition closed on December 31st 2018 and we can announce that the winner is Junior Made
“My name is Junior Made. I am better known by my stage name "Jay Made". I am a local Audio Engineer/Recording Artist based in New Bedford MA. I am truly beyond blessed and thankful for winning The Slate Digital ML-1 Microphone since I spend most of my time recording/mixing for myself and other clients. This will be a great addition to my arsenal and I honestly can't wait to hear the magic that comes out of it. Thank you guys so much. God bless.you all!”
Slate Digital's ML-1 Microphone With The Classic Tubes 3 Expansion Bundle
Five vintage valve mic models are available in The Classic Tubes 3 Expansion Bundle designed to complement the existing models in the VMS collection and brings the total available on the VMS to 13. Everything a growing studio needs to be creative and add great tone to your recordings:
FG-44
The FG-44 is an emulation of a classic ribbon mic with a cardioid pickup pattern. The tube/valve part comes into play with a custom added tube stage to the pre-amp circuit to add some rich harmonic content and gentle saturation.
FG-37A
This is a recreation of a Sony studio favorite and is one of the sweetest sounding mics in the new collection with a slightly scooped midrange which will make it perfect for acoustic instruments or a bright pop vocal.
FG-47 MKII
It is true to say there is already a 47 style microphone in the VMS but this MKII version is slightly sweeter than the stock 47 making it the perfect choice for that vintage vocal sound or try it on kick drums or bass guitar cab for some real clarity and power.
FG-67 MKII
The 67MKII is another double but the MKII is a stock mic with no modifications or tweaks. This is a darker sounding 67 which will sound great or dusky vocals, horns or any voice or instrument where it's vintage all the way.
FG-49
Based on the German 49 mic the FG-49 has a very forward rich midrange and a smooth air to the top end. I can see this being used mainly as a clean sounding vocal mic but it would be great for piano, drum overheads or room mics.
…and of course, an ML-1 microphone is included in this incredible prize, thank you SX Pro for your support! The ML-1 is an extremely high definition, ultra linear, large diaphragm condenser microphone. It has extremely precise transparent reproduction, flat frequency response, and super wide bandwidth, making it the ideal blank canvas on which to impart the colourful vibe of classic tube and condenser microphones. The capsule proximity effect precisely replicates the classic cardioid of vintage large diaphragm mics.
