Some of the big differences between Pro Tools and Pro Tools Ultimate software are well known. Most of us understand that surround work is Ultimate only for example. There lots of small differences which aren’t as well understood and one which I want to draw attention to today is Auto Fades.
Auto Fades
Anyone who has edited a lot of dialogue will understand how many tiny fades are created at the beginning and end of clips to bring them down to zero crossings to avoid audible clicks. Even with the Smart Tool and Batch Fades the repetitive nature of creating these fades can be a burden but Pro Tools ultimate has a handy auto fades feature which, because it is invisible in operation you might miss even if you were using it.
The Auto Fades applied by Pro Tools are automatically applied at clip boundaries but because don’t appear on the timeline and are automatically applied on playback it would be easy to not know they were there.
