The growth and proliferation of Audio Over IP in the industry continues to accelerate and AoIP will understandably be a major feature of the products and workflows on display at IBC in Amsterdam.
Update - Focusrite Announce Rednet XP2 And Red16 At IBC
Since this article went live Focusrite Have announced the Red16, offering 16 line level inputs on Dsubs and two Focusrite Evolution Mic Preamps to this Digilink equipped interface. Perfect for HD users wanting to incorporate a console into a Dante network.
The star of the new announcements has to be the Rednet XP2, a 2 in 2 out Rednet interface which perfectly complements the existing Rednet range and a product I've hoped (and suspected) has been in the pipeline for some time.
To find out more about these products see out news stories on the Rednet XP2 and Red16 on the site.
IBC 2017 IP Showcase
This year the show is hosting a full programme of educational sessions as part of their IP Showcase. With more than 50 vendors working together to demonstrate interoperability using the new SMPTE ST2110 standards, real world examples of deployment in varied real world scenarios and educational and technical sessions all conducted with no direct sales agenda.
Looking at the schedule, If I were going to the show I would be particularly interested in:
- ST2110 and AES67: the Audio Parts of ST 2110 with Andreas Hildebrand of ALC NetworX
- Two Installs Using Audio over IP for TV Production with Anthony David, MD of SSL
- A Basic Guide To Real Time IP Video with Andrew Jones, head of Training at IAMB
In terms of products to look out for at IBC a few which have caught my attention would be:
Aneman -Audio Network Manager and Aneman Enterprise Edition
From Merging Technologies, Aneman is a free, cross platform network manager for use with RAVENNA and AES67 networks. We had a quick look at this software at BVE this year and the new addition of the Enterprise edition adds extra management tools. This doesn’t require Merging equipment to be present and is intended for larger installations and system integrators where additional features are required
DAD MOM and SPQ
New stuff this year from DAD is their Monitor Operating Module (MOM) which is the desktop remote-control for the Pro Mon monitor controller. It will work with both the DAD AX32 and the Avid MTRX.
It provides monitor control capability for applications ranging from small music studios to large multi-room facilities with multiple MOMs. The MOM can be used as the only controller in a solution, or in combination with, for example, an S6 so it adds a whole new layer of functionality. And of course DAD now has a MOM...
Another new thing for ABC from our friends at DAD is SPQ Speaker processing. This is an option card for the AX32 which provides eq, channel latency, etc. for the speakers. It is basically the "missing link" that will turn the AX32 into the "mother of all monitor controllers".
Direct Out MADI - RAVENNA/AES67 Bridge
On the Aspen Media stand RAVENNA/AES67 users will be interested in the latest firmware update to DirectOut's MONTONE.42 MADI/Audio-over-IP bridge. The new HTML5 user interface has had a complete makeover; the new menu structure gives a full routing matrix between all MADI and AES67 channels and quick access to all relevant system and streaming information.
Direct Out MADI - RAVENNA/AES67 Bridge
Also on the Aspen Media stand is the Direct Out MADI - SoundGrid Bridge. SoundGrid is a low latency uncompressed Layer2 Ethernet protocol from Waves/DigiGrid for audio networking and real-time processing in live, broadcast and music production facilities. DirectOut SG.MADI is a bidirectional SoundGrid to MADI converter that will be just the job for multi-stage venues wanting to connect MADI and SoundGrid consoles or for integrating outboard equipment and DAWs to a SoundGrid environment.
SSL System T S300
A new compact console from SSL, the System T is a fully networked production environment running Dante and AES67. The System T S300 introduces a compact, fixed layout, non-modular console into the line up to complement the larger System T console.
Calrec Table Football and AoIPA
Finally look out for Calrec who promise, in addition to a collection of fine broadcast consoles, Beer and football - Table football and AoIPA (groan..).
IBC runs from 14-19th September at RAI Amsterdam.
