IK Multimedia have just announced an update to their room correction and monitor calibration system ARC. Version 2.5 introduces a handful of new features along with a new MEMS measurement microphone that claims to capture super accurate measurements of studio spaces.
The New MEMS Measurement Microphone
IK Multimedia say:
Previous versions of ARC shipped with a very different type of measurement microphone, one of which I own, so I'm very keen to try this new MEMS microphone with the ARC 2.5 update to hear how IK Multimedia have developed the room calibration system.
What's New In ARC 2.5 Software?
There doesn't appear to be any major developments in the general GUI design. Most of the updates are under the hood. IK Multimedia claim that ARC 2.5 provides better corrections four times greater in resolution in the low end compared to ARC 2. This most likely will only be achieved with the new MEMS microphone.
Apparently the fun doesn't just stop in the low end, ARC 2.5 also promises to improve room corrections in the mid to high frequency ranges and well. I purchased ARC 2 a number of years ago, the only reason why I stopped using it was because I felt as though I could hear the correction working too much when I was mixing through it. IK Multimedia claim that the new brains in ARC 2.5 makes the correction process "totally transparent" with "a clearer and more precise response." The news of ARC 2.5 has certainly caught my attention - I feel a new Room Calibration Software Shootout coming soon.
Pricing & Availability
The MEMS measurement microphone is available to pre-order now and is expected to start shipping July 2017 - Price? a reasonable €69.99 excl. VAT.
ARC 2.5 bundled with the MEMS microphone is also available to pre-order for €199.99 excl. VAT with crossgrade options available for users of earlier versions of ARC.
ARC 2.5 software will be a free update for current ARC 2 users. The MEMS microphone is recommended for best results.
