Cue tenuous link between February 14th and love, but to be honest there's a lot of hate around Pro Tools, so we thought Valentine's Day was a good day to say why so many of us love Pro Tools.
Pro Tools Is The Industry Standard
So you are saying it's the best and the only DAW that people use? NO! Read our lips we are saying that Pro Tools is the industry standard. What this means is that a large proportion of top music and post production studios use Pro Tools as their DAW of choice. Why? Becuase it's used by most of the top music and post production studios - see what we did there? You may not like Pro Tools, but when it comes to moving from studio to studio around the world, then Pro Tools is the DAW you are most likely to find being used. During a season of awards for music, film, and TV it's also highly likely that most of the content was created with Pro Tools...that's what we mean by industry standard.
Pro Tools Is Great For Editing Audio
There are a lot of great DAWs on the market, all with some great features that make them unique. When it comes to editing audio, then Pro Tools can hold it's own in a fight. The combination of key commands and easy to use functionality make Pro Tools a great DAW for editing audio.
You'll find a lot of content makes its creative journey on a number of different DAWs, but when it comes to editing the audio, we'll use Pro Tools every time to get the job done fast. Watching some of the post production people editing on Pro Tools using keyboard shortcuts and you'll see where the term 'Pro Tools Ninja' came from.
Pro Tools Has Excellent Legacy Support
There's nothing worse than having a new version of a software application and then finding yourself unable to open either a newer version of a file or vice-versa. Avid have worked hard over the years to give Pro Tools users as much legacy support as possible - in most cases offering users of the Pro Tools 12 the ability to open most of the session in versions 5.1 and later. New features are great but not if you find yourself with an old session which is locked.
Summary
We write this site because we love Pro Tools. We made it past the first date, the long-term dating and on to marriage. Like any relationship over time you see that not everything is perfect with Pro Tools, it has its faults and at times infuriates us-but when push comes to shove we wouldn't want to change.
So on this Valentine's Day, we take a moment to celebrate our love for Pro Tools - you may not understand why we do but isn't that the nature of love?
