Nikki Weinberg Thank you!!! I just found your tutorial video for Setting Up The PreSonus Quantum I/O In Pro Tools. And I just can't thank you enough! I originally set it up really by brail. And just because I’m proficient enough in Pro Tools, I got it working. But I knew there was so much I was missing... So finding this video was exactly what I needed. Just keep doin what you’re doing. I just wanted to give you a sincere thank you.
Jeff Berlin Where should I go to voice a peeve I have with PT12.8? I want them them make this a user option: Pro Tools 12.8 has a “feature” where the selection snaps to your grid when you hit the command key with "trim" or "select" while in "slip" mode. On earlier versions you could hold down the command key and “trim” while keeping the regions attached, they’ve moved that so you now hit “command” and “option” to get that function. The problem is if I’m copying, pasting, deleting, undoing.. it’s “COMMAND” “z”, “x”, “c”, or “v”.. in about every piece of software we use. But do that in Pro Tools, your selection automatically snaps to the grid right before you copy or delete - so you end up with upcuts or extra space - NOT what I selected, sometimes I don’t even realize it happened. So for me it means “undo” go back, do over. Time = wasted. The reasoning is you don’t need to hit the “command” button in PT keyboard focus mode - you just hit the “x” or “c” - no modifier key needed. But muscle memory is strong - I have to be really conscious of NOT hitting “command”. Before there was no consequence if you did, now there is. I’m mostly editing voiceover for radio promos and have no use for this new feature, when I want things to snap to the grid I hit “F4” and work in Grid mode. Thanks for reading, would love to find out if I’m the one one who has an issue with this, or if maybe Avid would consider enabling us to turn off this feature.
Damian Manuel Here’s a handy tip for James for Pro Tools in WIndows 10: Hi James, I heard you mention on your podcast that one issue you are having with the move to Pro Tools on Windows is importing audio defaulting to random folder locations. At the top of the Import audio window box are 2 drop down menus. The folders menu shows all the last used import locations. If you choose one of them, it will default to that folder for importing each time from then on. Not quite what you are after, but a lot better than defaulting to system folders. I made the switch from a Mac to a PC about 10 years ago and haven't looked back. Some things like having to drag the edit window out in order to have the mix window or workspace viewable on another screen are totally annoying and are something Avid could fix in 2 minutes if they wanted to. Hopefully the new avid programmers are a little bit more Windows savvy. Let me know if there are other things you struggle with as I have found workarounds for most of them and I'm not sure I could go back to a Mac now after all this time! regards,
