Community member Nick T T has been in touch with a query about syncing two Pro Tools systems together. Over to you Nick....
I am running a Pro Tools HD3 pci-x system with a 192 interface running Pro Tools 8.
I am also triggering sounds from a Mac 3.06 system Intel dual core iMac with Pro Tools 10 (I haven’t bought a interface yet for this one)
What’s the best possible way to sync them? I need something solid and reliable. Is there a interface that I can buy that will do that for the Intel mac with Pro Tools 10 in it? Is there something else - a easy solid way to do it. I’m pulling my hair out trying to figure this out. Your advice would be greatly appreciated.
Our suggestions Nick revolve around Vienna Ensemble Pro. Russ has produced a video on how to do this, you can rent or watch as part of our premium video subscription channel.
In this video tutorial Russ shows how to use Vienna Ensemble Pro on 2 Macs over Ethernet. The video explains how to set up Pro Tools, see both Macs on one screen, connect both instances of VEP5 and then route it back to Pro Tools.
Sync Two Macs Running Pro Tools For FREE Without Satellite
Our second suggestion is based on a trick that Russ explained in another of our tutorial videos on our premium video subscription channel.
Russ shows how to connect two Macs via Ethernet and run two Pro Tools systems in sync without the need to spend money on software. In this video he locks a Mac Pro running Pro Tools 11 with a Mac Mini running Pro Tools 10.
