Do you want to improve your chances of getting more work?
Of course you do. So I'm going to tell you two ways to make sure you get more work and hopefully make more money.
1. Take Enquiries Seriously
I'm installing a new studio and as part of that process I had to get some bi-fold glass doors ordered.
They are not cheap at around £3000. I went online and got the specifications with all the materials and measurements made into a PDF from a company who specialise in them. Then I emailed that specification to 5 local companies to get a quote.
Of the 5 who I emailed one returned an email with the quote at 11pm that night. One got back to me three days later and the other three never even bothered replying.
The first company got my business 24 hours after responding. The second company missed the boat, which I told them and they came back to me with some story about their email not working properly - not my problem.
The other 3 companies probably spent that weekend in the local bar telling people how terrible business is, of course it is they don't take enquiries seriously, even ones worth £3000.
2. Get Ahead Of The Day
Working late is sometimes necessary, getting up early is essential to get ahead of the day.
My day will often start anywhere between 6am -7am, by the time some of my clients (and competitors) get into their office and start reading email I've been working for up to 4 hours already.
I've cleared my inbox, sorted and prioritised and checked sources of information and inspiration. Even better there has not been a single phone call and rarely any emails to interrupt me for at least 2 hours.
You may think starting work early is a drag but it can get you several hours ahead of the day and make a huge amount of difference. It may mean your quote or your pitch gets to the client first and if they have an urgent deadline it may win you the job.
