Doors From Hiss And A Roar
We start with a announcement via Twitter from Tim Prebble from Hiss And a Roar that his next library will be called Doors.
3D Printer Sound FX Library From USO
Thanks to Paul Virostek from Sound Effects Search for pointing me to this new library from Unidentified Sound Object. 3Dimensional Printing is the result of different recording sessions of a couple of 3D printers (the Sharebot NG – Next Generation and the DeltaWASP 20 40) at Fabb and at FabLab Milan between 2014 and 2015.
All the sounds were recorded as uncompressed .wav files through both a RME Fireface UCX and a Zoom H6 Portable Recorder. Durations range from 1 to 5 minutes, with the most sonically interesting excerpts from full printing cycles. Lots of pattern and sequences are available for selection and transformation. Five different transducers were chosen to capture all the sonic details of these mechanisms:
- C-SERIES pro contact microphones, hand-made by Jez Riley French;
- Barcus Berry 4000 Planar Wave System (Piezo crystal sensor+4000XL Piezo Preamp);
- Piezo Film Tab Contact Microphones by Cold Gold Audio;
- Custom Induction Coil Pick-up (also used to create the Unseen Noises collection);
- Zoom MSH-6 MS Capsule (the stereo image of the Mid-Side recordings is rendered as balanced stereo LR files).
- 24 bit recordings, library size 5.73GB
- Price $49
Rabbit Ears Audio Release REA_18 A Port Of Call
REA_018 is another collaboration with Game Audio Director Rob Bridgett. Port of Call is a unique collection of industrial ambiences. Shipping ports are one of my white whales. Getting access to any port of entry with recording equipment is a tall order.
St. John’s, Newfoundland has an very active port, with large and small industrial tankers coming from the Atlantic into St. John’s harbour. The harbour’s large cove makes it an ideal location for recording. The surrounding hillsides provide great distant perspectives, and close access to shipping containers provide great industrial strength banging.
One of the features of this library is the collection of ship compressor horns. Every two years the harbor is blasted by the sounds of coordinated (scored) compressor ship horns of the Sound Symposium Harbor Symphony. There’s a staggering 100 plus takes of all sorts of compressor horn madness.
The library consists of three main parts:
Distant Ambiences (quad and stereo): Recordings from various perspectives around the docks. Rabbit Ears was able to get a number of unique perspectives from various elevations because of the protected nature of the cove surrounding the docks.
Dockside Container Movements (stereo): Recordings made from close perspectives as containers are unloaded, aggressively moved, and generally banged about.
HOOOOooonk – Ship Horns (stereo): Rob was lucky enough to capture a variety of ships entering and departing the cove around St. John’s. Some of the recordings come from an annual symposium where ship horns are “performed” in a bit of nautical improvisation.
The price of Port of Call is normally $129 but if you hurry you will catch it at the introductory price of $99.
An Introduction To Shapingwaves
David Kamp from Shapingwaves got in touch asking if we can highlight his independent sound effects libraries. These include ambiences, foley recordings and imaginary, designed sound effects. They aim to cater to sound designers looking for new sound materials to expand their sonic palette, animators, filmmakers and game or application developers in need of professional sound effects and atmospheres for their projects. Their collections are recorded and designed in 96 kHz WAV format, edited and enriched with detailed embedded metadata (soundminer compatible) and delivered using fast and reliable Amazon S3 servers.
After graduating in Electronic Composition, Sound Recording and Computer Music at ICEM (Folkwang University of the Arts) David Kamp collaborated with high profile independent directors, artists and commercial clients. In 2007 he founded his Berlin based Studiokamp specialising in sound design and music for animated films, installations and interactive experiences.
Collections available so far include Athens Rooftop, Alarms, Robot Voices, New York, Berlin Balcony, Wendland Autumn, Circuits, Quadcopter, Planets, Air Travel, 8-Bit Games as well as a Complete Bundle. Prices vary from $29 to $49 per collection with the bundle prices at $330.
