With everything that has been going on since the summer we have got a little behind with the Sonnox Community Awards again. We are delighted to announce the the winners for August, September and October are Siimon Nakra, Bertrand Grichting, and Wayne Urquhart.
Simon Nakra
I am a Director for MasterClass Entertainments based in the Midlands, which has been established for over 10 years providing entertainment services throughout the UK and the rest of the world to the Asian community.
My recording studio consists of a Pro Tools HD Native system and Raven touchscreen consoles. I have been a Pro Tools user for many years and although I have used a number of Digital Audio Workstations, Pro Tools is definitely my number one DAW. I work on a number of projects for a variety of different clients which includes recording, production and mixing services. I have owned a couple of large format analogue consoles in the past but now I work primarily in the box which suits my workflow.
I would like to thank Pro Tools Expert for awarding me the Sonnox Community Award. I am hugely grateful and humbled. The team at Pro Tools Expert are doing such a fantastic job in bringing the community together and I look forward to many more articles and tutorials.
I don’t currently own any Sonnox plugins but have heard so many great things about them. The plugin I have chosen from the Sonnox Elite Collection is the Oxford EQ. As it’s a natural sounding plugin, this will complement my list of EQ’s very nicely. There is no doubt I may venture more into Sonnox plugins as there are a few others I have my eye on. Thanks again to Pro Tools Expert and Sonnox.
Bertrand Grichting
I’m 47 years old, live in Switzerland and I am an IT Systems Engineer. Almost 30 years ago I visited the School of Audio-Engineering in Munich, back in those analog days, and then went to Los Angeles to learn Guitar at the Musicians Institute (G.I.T.). After working for several years in studios, I decided to finally make some money so I took on a career in Information Technology and stopped making music almost completely. Then about 6 years ago I started with a very small home-studio because the desire to make music became stronger and stronger again. Now I am working part time (80%) as an IT-Engineer and the rest is dedicated to my ever-growing studio, doing music-production “as an amateur with a professional attitude” for myself and others, of course with Pro Tools!
I would like the Oxford TransMod, because I am pretty well equipped with EQ’s, and compressors/limiters but could need a good tool to process transients in my plugin arsenal.
Wayne Urquhart
I am a composer, dubbing mixer, arranger and cellist and have worked in the entertainment industry for over 20 years.
My freelance and employed career in audio has spanned across video games, radio ads and plays, television promos, documentaries and films. In 2001, I set up my own company, Wulfnote - composing, arranging, mixing music and providing audio post services.
I am currently working at A+E Networks UK (formerly the History channel) as Head of Audio and whilst trialing some Sonnox plugs that I do not already own, I have very much fallen for the SuprEsser. For me its more than your avarage vanilla de-esser - its the speed, accuracy and importantly - transparency - with which this thing works that put a smile on my face and removed some worry lines I'd grown recently!
I caught one of my colleagues attempting to isolate and remove a particularly 'essy whistle' on one of our regular VO artist's recordings by doing the usual gained notch filter approach. This was after being fed up with trying other de-essers. Slipped the SuprEsser in and the job was done in a fraction of the time and then kept it in check the next time it happened seconds later - with zero lisp/noticable HF reduction.
As already mentioned, I already own and use on a 'go-to' basis the Dynamics, Limiter, EQ and Inflator...simply for their flexibility and unassuming process print on the audio once treated. The SuprEsser would definitely be a well needed and invaluable addition to my arsenal considering what I do - thank you and Sonnox again!
What Is The Sonnox Community Award?
As we have said on many occasions we aren’t the only Pro Tools Experts, it works best when we pull together as a community to help each other when and where we can. There are plenty of places on the web for trolls and negativity, but many of our members work hard to create a positive and supportive community of Pro Tools Experts and we think that kind of attitude should be recognised and encouraged. With all of that in mind we are rewarding those in the community who go the extra mile to help others.
Each month we award the Community Member Of The Month Award sponsored by Sonnox. This award goes to the individual, who in the judges opinion, made an ongoing contribution to the Pro Tools Expert community.
