You may remember a while back we ran a competition where each week we offered an iLok as a prize for the best tip from a community member. For the next 4 weeks we are running this competition again as we have 4 very special silver iLoks to give away. You have been sending in your tips and so here are a selection of them.
First off is Alan, otherwise known as "Myguitarcase". Alan says....
I have a Pro Tools tip that you guys might already know that I think is quite amazing. In Pro Tools 12.2.1, there is a new feature that is not covered in the “what’s new” guide from Avid.
When you make a new group, you can now select Attributes and Global control on group menu. As you guys probably know, this used to available for only HD users. With 12.2.1 I don’t have to buss my mono tracks to apply the same effects. I can now simply group the plug-ins in multiple channels without creating an Aux track. This is a super handy function and I am glad that it is available to Pro Tools native users!
Next up is Marc Oliver Bahl...
One of the things that helps me in productions is the lovely effect of stacking guitars (and I don't just mean in a pile in a corner of the control room!)
What I mean is recording the same guitar riff 8-10 times, with different amps, maybe different guitars, to get a huge amount of harmonic content to work with. This has always been the saviour of my “rock sound” whenever a rock band was in the studio.
Damman Gwenael got in touch to share this one....
Here is a trick that helps me. Try compressing the bass, and riding the fader with Quiet Art WaveRider v3 to bring a lovely smoothness and control of the basses…
Finally in this batch one from Damien Chambers...
When recording a Marshall cabinet, unscrew the handle on the side of the cabinet and stick a 57 inside. You can get some different tones floating around inside the cabinet to mix in with the mics on the grill. I've even taken both handles off the cabinet and mic'd it both sides with 2 mics, flipping phase in and out finding some funky tones.
Please note that just because we have published them doesn't mean you have won, its just what we want to share the best of your tips with the whole community. Each week we will announce one winner on the podcast, so listen out and see if you are the lucky one, each week.
