We’ve been reporting a lot of news of Avid coming and going since Monday, to recap…
The sale of M-Audio and AIR to inMusic
The closure of the UK Sibelius team
The loss of 365 Avid jobs at a cost of around $17million
The exit of several key execs, as well as several key people in Pro and Enterprise
The departure of their Chief Technology Officer
However, I can’t help but think, that whilst these headlines are worth interest, that perhaps the real story is what happens next at Avid.
There are two possible scenarios as far as I can see;
A new commitment to innovation heralding a new Avid, just as happened to Apple, who were about 90 days from bankruptcy before the ‘second great act in the history of business’.
Avid is sold off.
Whilst my heart wants to hope it’s the first option, the recent moves in key departures look more like a preparation to sell the business and not a declaration of war to usher in a new era for Avid.
I’m no Robert Peston, just a technology blogger, so you might want to take what I’m saying with a pinch of salt, but there’s a nagging feeling about this whole story that I just can’t shake.
