Over the years there has been a lot of negative feeling about iLok, ranging from complaints about lost licences, locked accounts, broken iLok dongles all the way through to conspiracy theories that are not even worth writing.
Brainworx, SPL, Vertigo And Elysia have now announced a new way to protect their content from piracy - The Plugin Alliance. More here.
So is this a challenge to the far reaching iLok licence method? If so is that a good thing or just a rose by another name? Is the iLok system as bad as some suggest? I have never had an issue, but have friends who had accounts locked or dongles fail. Would other manufacturers follow suit and join the Alliance? iLok is a lucrative business model for those that own it, for a manufacturer Have your say via our comments section.
So a couple of questions. Does this make a serious challenge to iLok and which would you prefer?
