Review - Lauten Audio Series Black Microphones

In this video review for Production Expert, Technical Editor James Ivey takes a look and listen to the Series Black range of condenser microphones by Lauten Audio.
As always James puts the mics to work in a short track at the end of the video so you can hear the mics in action.

Series Black

There are 3 models in the Lauten Audio Series Black range.

LA-320
The Series Black LA-320 large diaphragm valve condenser mic is a natural sounding versatile microphone with transformer balanced output that features a 1″ gold sputtered diaphragm in a fixed cardioid polar pattern. The mic houses a dual-triode valve to give audio that smooth warmth that only a valve can but without the wooliness that some valve mics can add. There is a built-in 120Hz low-cut filter and a 12kHz high-cut filter for taming the recording path. This is one of those mics that is very forgiving. You will have to try very hard not to make a good recording with this mic. The mic ships in a solid flight case with power supply, cables and shock mount.

The LA320 is priced at $499 USD MAP and £469  UK RRP but ask you pro audio dealer for latest pricing.

LA-220
The Series Black LA-220 large diaphragm FET studio condenser microphone with a 1″ pressure gradient true-condenser capsule in a fixed cardioid pickup pattern. The LA-220 features a U.S. made ultra-low-noise JFET amplifier circuit, independent 120Hz low-cut and 12kHz high-cut filters, and a transformer balanced output. This is a real workhorse mic. Use it for recording vocals, instrument, percussion, room, pretty much anything where you want a clean sounding recording.

The LA220 is priced at $249 USA MAP and £239 UK RRP.

LA-120
The Series Black LA-120 small-diaphragm FET condenser microphone pair are fantastic for recording just about anything where you want an even stereo image with fantastic detail, including drum overheads, stereo rooms or acoustic instrument like guitar. The heart of the LA-120 is a U.S. made ultra-low-noise JFET amplifier, which in this case gives the LA-120 a very high output. The LA-120 also features interchangeable 17mm pressure gradient condenser cardioid and omnidirectional capsules. The body of the mic houses the 50Hz and 150Hz low-cut filters and 10kHz and 15kHz high-cut filters.

A pair of LA-120 mics in a wooden box with mounting clips, windscreens and alternative capsules is priced at $349 US MAP and £329 UK RRP.
