Review - Audient ASP8024 Day 3

In this video you join Pro Tools Expert Technical Editor James Ivey for day 3 of his sessions on the Audient ASP8024 Heritage Edition console. In this, the final part of this series, James and Audient's Bryn Wildish look at mixing the track "Sticks & Stones", which they have recorded over the previous days. In particular concentrating on the patch bay section and routing of the console bringing in so last minute gear additions to aid mixing.

James and Bryn raid the stores of Red Dog Music, whose London store is in the same building as ACM to add a rather lovely Warm Audio WA-2A hardware limiter, which they use on the bass guitar channel. They also experiment with 2 guitar effects pedals in place of rack gear to add effects to the vocal and lead guitar.

Bryn talks about some of the features of the 8024  and how it makes using some more unconventional studio easy to work with using the level converters that are built into the ASP8024HE patch bay.

The Verdict

So here it is, the final 3 mixes of the track Sticks And Stones by Rex Strother at 44.1KHz 16 bit.

  • Track 1 has no effects at all. No desk EQ, no external effects or outboard gear. Just the raw recorded and balanced audio files.

  • Track 2 has desk EQ and effects but not mix buss processing.

  • Track 3 has every thing all functioning like a fun mix. The deck master buss processing is all engaged and sounding great.
