Remote Working - Just For Engineers?

Over the last five years or so, remote working has become a fact of life for many audio pros, however many more independent creatives are now also working with each other regardless of their location. With fewer of the middle entities such as labels and managers, artists are increasingly in charge of their own destinies from song idea, right through to distributing the finished product.

Getting the right people on board for any project no longer means being in the same place. Self-engineering creators need to be able to review mixes over the internet, or even do the occasional overdub using ever-faster connections. Although audio is the main consideration, there’s also the need to feel like everyone is in the room - for this, tools need to have decent comms with talkback and everyone’s collab favourite: video chat.

Using Ginger Audio Authentic Audio

The system uses an audio plugin that sits across the DAWs outputs to transmit the session. This can then be listened to by others through their web browser. The option to record is also there, and going beyond stereo music projects, Authentic Audio supports 32-bit / 96 kHz quality and multichannel audio as well. Separate video chat with talkback and screen sharing is also provided.

In the video we show how to set up Authentic Audio to stream mixes to collaborators. We show how the platform’s video chat windows can help comms between participants, but most importantly we showcase the audio quality that can be expected using Authentic Audio. Note that we have left our DAW master at minus infinity in our example; all mix audio in the video is streamed from the client’s browser to demonstrate Authentic Audio’s quality over an internet connection.
