Waves Announce Second Licences For Subscribers

Today Waves announced that customers with an active subscription will receive second licences for products included in their subscriptions from November 1, 2023.

Back in March 2023,  Waves announced that they would be discontinuing perpetual licences and moving to a subscription-only model.

There was a very public outcry from customers, which was swiftly followed by a reversal of this position with Waves reintroducing perpetual licences and WUPs.

Tonight Waves has emailed customers with the following message:

“Many of us work on more than one computer and require licence flexibility.

Starting November 1, 2023, we will add a 2nd licence for all active Waves Creative Access Subscriptions-allowing subscribers to use their plugins on a separate computer without having to move licences between devices.

The 2nd licence is for use by the owner of the main product licence only.  (see terms & conditions)

We will update you once the second licences become available.

All the best,

The Waves Team”

Terms And Conditions

Eligibility: Beginning November 1, 2023, you will receive a 2nd license for any active Waves Creative Access subscription (Waves Essential or Waves Ultimate, annual or monthly plans).

Registration: 2nd licenses are automatically registered to your account and can be activated via Waves Central, in the same account to which the Waves Creative Access subscription belongs.

Expiration: The 2nd license will become inactive at the same time that the main subscription license becomes inactive, whether canceled voluntarily, or canceled due to a failed payment.

Terms of Use: The 2nd license is for use by the owner of the main product license only.

Returns: If you return a product, both the main license and the 2nd license are returned automatically.

What This Means

The significance of this announcement is that prior to this, there wasn’t parity between the offer to permanent licence holders who maintained a WUP got a second license as long as they kept their WUP up to date. Whereas until now, subscription customers did not. With this announcement, Waves are now offering 2nd licenses to both Perpetual license holders with an up-to-date WUP and all those on subscription plans.
