Soundminer V5 Pro Extended Tutorial Series Released

Are you using Soundminer to manage your sound effects or dialog rushes? Not sure you are getting the most from Soundminer? Then this extended video tutorial series from Tim Nielsen is for you. We will let Tim explain…

Why Create A Tutorial Series?

Soundminer is a powerful program for organizing your sound library, be it dialog, music or sound effects. It has become widely adopted by users and facilities around the world.

However, many users may only be scratching the surface of what this program is capable of. Over the years, as the program has grown, many new features have been added. As a user of Soundminer of many years, and also a Sound Librarian, it was always interesting to me to learn how many of the advanced features were often missed, even by users who use the program daily.

15 Hours Of Tutorials Across 51 Videos

I have wanted to do a set of video tutorials on Soundminer from back when the program was at v4.5, but until COVID gave us the gift of time at home, I simply never found the time. So this year I fired up the screen capture software and got to work. Little did I know how much time this would take and the end result would be over 15 hours of tutorial in 51 videos.

For Both The Beginner And Advanced User

I have tried to structure the videos in order for someone completely new to Soundminer, but have also created each video to be relatively stand alone so an advanced user could simply watch the videos that interested them.

In my experience, many features in Soundminer, such as the Meta-Tags, the Spotting Panel, Tag to Database, Composite Audio Files, are often overlooked and missed. Even the act of 'finding' things needed its own video, as, like so many things in Soundminer, there are multiple ways to accomplish it.

Useful For Sound Effects Vendors Too

There is also a whole set of videos on the Workflow Window and creating advanced Metadata. Bad Metadata is a bit of a pet peeve with me (so much that myself and a few others start the Universal Category System to try and combat it), and this tutorial series would be quite useful for many vendors who are selling their sound effects, to help them sculpt proper metadata, or anyone trying to organize a library.

Keyboard Maestro Macros Included

Included with the video set is a folder of bonus files that include my entire Keyboard Maestro set of macros, that some find useful, along with some other useful files.

First 6 Videos Available Free On YouTube

I have put up the first six videos in a playlist on YouTube, which will allow people to preview the series and see if they are interested in purchasing it. These videos cover the scope of the tutorials and then give an overview and quick crash course of Soundminer.

Radium Will Have Its Own Tutorial Series

One thing that is not covered in this set of videos is Radium. While I know that will be disappointing to some, there are two reasons.

  1. Radium is such an advanced addition to the program, that it will need its entire own set of tutorial videos, something I hope to make at some point.

  2. Radium is still growing in leaps and bounds, and both Justin at Soundminer and myself realized we should let the latest additions and ideas evolve into the program before we tackle a series of videos on it.

Updates For Tutorial Series Owners

Over time, as new features are added, my intention is to create ‘update’ videos that will be sent to all purchasers of the series.
