RME Fireface 802 FS Interface Announced

RME has introduced its latest pro audio interface, the Fireface 802 FS. The device provides 60 channels of analogue and digital I/O, emphasising ultra-low latency operation and stable, reliable performance RME is known for.

The Fireface 802 FS features four front panel XLR/TRS combo inputs, the same as those found on RME's OctaMic II unit for mic, line and instrument signals. Each of the four channels includes independently switchable phantom power. Additionally, two stereo headphone outputs on the front panel have individual volume controls with a +17dBu output.

On the rear panel eight line-level inputs and outputs to complete the analogue I/O. The line-level outputs are DC-coupled, enabling CV or Gate signal output for modular synthesisers and compatible audio hardware. All analogue I/O, including the microphone preamps, feature upgraded A-D and D-A converters, delivering improved technical performance compared to the previous version.

The Fireface 802 FS offers four Toslink connectors, for 16 channels of ADAT at sample rates up to 48kHz eight channels at 96kHz or four channels at 192kHz via S/MUX or S/MUX4. The second Toslink port can be configured to support two channels of S/PDIF optical at sample rates up to 200kHz. Additionally, two XLR connectors provide two channels of AES/EBU I/O, with Wordclock I/O on a pair of BNC connectors.

The Fireface 802 FS comes with RME's TotalMix FX mixer and signal routing software, powered by onboard DSP. The mixer includes EQ, dynamics, reverb, and delay processors, along with built-in monitoring control facilities. Users can also utilise RME's optional ARC USB remote unit for convenient hands-on control over software features in a compact desktop unit.

Connectivity to a host computer is provided via USB 2, with the option to run using RME's dedicated drivers or as a class-compliant device, natively supported on Windows, macOS, iPads and Linux. The unit features an internal PSU and is powered via standard IEC inlet.

The Fireface 802 FS is currently available, priced at £1819 including VAT. With its extensive features, improved I/O options, and TotalMix FX capabilities, this audio interface offers audio engineers a versatile tool for their professional recording needs.
