Pro Tools, Studio One, Cubase, REAPER & Logic Pro All Running On macOS Ventura

macOS Ventura was recently announced by Apple at WWDC2022. macOS Ventura is not officially launched for general public use, however we have a first beta of the software. We wanted to see how stable it is to run several DAWs, Pro Tools, Studio One, Cubase, REAPER, and Logic Pro. Here’s our findings.

IMPORTANT

*We run these tests to see if any early issues emerge. We are using beta software and do not recommend ever doing this on mission critical systems. We offer no endorsement of suitability.

Pro Tools 2022.5

We installed Pro Tools 2022 without issue. This also requires we install iLok licence Manager, this also installed without issue.

We downloaded the demo track from the Avid website and then launched. We also installed the AIR virtual instrument pack for use in the session. This also installed without issue.

We launched the test session and this played without any issues.

As far as we can tell there are no changes in macOS 13 that would cause issues when using Pro Tools.*

Studio One 5 Professional

We downloaded the installer from the PreSonus website and activated it using their online tool.

The demo track “Turn the World Around” by Neil Zaza was loaded. This played without issue.

As far as we can tell there are no changes in macOS 13 that would cause issues when using Studio One 5.*

Steinberg Cubase 12

We installed the Steinberg Download Assistant software and then installed Steinberg Cubase 12 without issue.

We used the Cubase demo song to test the software and it ran without issue.

As far as we can tell there are no changes in macOS 13 that would cause issues when using Cubase.*

REAPER

REAPER is the most compact of all the DAW installers and we downloaded it and installed without issue.

We dragged a set of audio files into REAPER and tested it, it played without issue.

As far as we can tell there are no changes in macOS 13 that would cause issues when using REAPER.*

Apple Logic Pro

We’d be surprised if Apple’s own DAW Logic Pro wasn’t compatible with the latest macOS.

We installed it from the App Store and loaded one of the Apple Logic demo tracks. It played without issue.

As far as we can tell there are no changes in macOS 13 that would cause issues when using Logic Pro.*

Summary

In our early tests we are impressed by this beta of the macOS. It feels more snappy than earlier versions. Earlier macOS versions were still dealing with the transition from 32bit to 64 bit. Furthermore earlier DAWs were making the transition to Apple Silicon. With the exception of Pro Tools, native Silicon versions are now available for all major DAWs.

We expect that when the public release of macOS 13 Ventura ships that it will be a smooth transition for most users. With that said, this is a beta copy and we repeat we are not recommending using this for mission critical work. We recommend you wait until your DAW is supported by the developer.
