Avid is now planning to release a Silicon version of Pro Tools soon.

First, we spotted a tweet from Avid Customer Care, which we reported in our article Pro Tools 2022.9 Released - Everything You Need To Know in response to a customer asking about Apple Silicon native support, saying…

“Now that this important Pro Tools 22.9 release is done, the Pro Tools team is focused on delivering native Apple Silicon Support (M1 and M2) in the near future for customers on active subscriptions and support contracts.”

This has now been confirmed by Rob D'Amico, Sr., who is Director of Product Management, Pro Tools Software. In a Facebook discussion, Rob said;

“Now that this important Pro Tools 22.9 release is done, the Pro Tools team is focused on delivering native Apple silicon support (M1 and M2) in the near future for customers on active subscriptions and support contracts.”

Note the identical language!

What’s Next

Avid will be working with their internal development team and releasing developer and beta builds to their Third Party plugin developers over the coming weeks and months.

Although no date has been confirmed, it is suggested this could happen before the end of the year. Our advice is not to expect an announcement at AES 2022.

Pro Tools will be one of the last DAWs to offer native Apple Silicon compatibility. However, given the age of the application and the reverse compatibility requirements, porting Pro Tools to a native Apple Silicon version is no mean feat.
