Known Issues

General

  • Importing from AAF displays "Synchronizing Folder Contents" and "Fetching Waveform Overviews" tasks which take a very long time to complete (PT-230305)

  • .wav files created by a program like Reaper or AudioHijack may sometimes place metadata chunk ordered before the PCM chunk. This may cause issues if a file of this type is shared between two systems (for instance, being accessed from a Nexis). If the file is already open on one system, and then opened on another, and one of the systems processes the file in a way that alters metadata (such as Elastic Analysis), then the other system may play the file as full scale noise until the session is reopened. (PT-298545)

ARA

  • Melodyne data can't be found after ISD combination of ARA tracks with different track width. (PT-296678)

  • Placed on the tick, a Melodyne track ARA-clip will not be analyzed back when rendered. (PT-299878)

    • If encountered, trim clip and undo

  • “Melodyne track data can’t be found” after session reopening that was saved with recently rendered clip group with the ARA-clip inside. (PT-300280)

  • Imported ARA-clip is losing its ARA edits after the third import to the same track if session was saved/reopened before. (PT-298587)

    • If encountered, import to the new or different tracks.

  • Copying (CMD+C) over a partially selected ARA clip will add a new redundant record to the clip list. (PT-291848)

  • Every “Copy” operation(CMD+C) over the clip group with ARA-clip(s) inside adds a new redundant record to the clip list. (PT-298963)

  • After analyzing a clip with Melodyne, attempting to use the Pro Tools Scrubber Tool will cause the Melodyne curser in the ARA editor to be out of sync with the Pro Tools curser. (PT-283237)

  • With Classic and Hybrid HDX systems, audio preview is not audible from the Melodyne plug-in on record armed tracks. (PT-288978)

Carbon Systems

  • Some Input paths for Carbon Expander B and C devices are removed when using Default in I/O Setup, if the device inputs are assigned to tracks in certain combinations. (PT-299262)

    • To avoid this issue, configure the I/O Setup before creating or opening a session, and create the paths you need before closing the I/O Setup and creating or opening a session.

  • Carbon Pre - After defaulting the I/O setup, there can be an additional ADAT 2:8 mono output path created when session is using all available Carbon outputs and main MON outs are disabled. If this happens, Delete the path or not use it. (PT-299422)

  • Carbon Central - AMS clock source always shows the one that was previously set on device when it was changed from AMS application. Current workaround is to close and re-open AMS. (PT-300157)

  • Carbon Pre - Changing clock source to ADAT permanently breaks HW insert & loopback ADC until device reboots. (PT-285508)

    • If encountered:

      • Quit Pro Tools

      • Change clock source of Carbon to Internal:Reserved

      • Re-launch Pro Tools

  • Users using an expanded Carbon + 2x Carbon Pre system at 192 kHz may experience an AAE error "AAE can't get audio from the drive(s) fast enough (-9073)"  (PT-286146)

  • Carbon is missing from AMS after installing Pro Tools and must be re-selected in Network Device Browser. (PT-291140)

Dolby Atmos

  • Pro Tools is sluggish if Dolby Atmos is enabled in Peripherals but no Renderer is connected, if either Falcon or Cisco Socket Filters are active in System Preferences->Network (PT-276550)

    • Work-around 1: Select any Cisco or Falcon socket filters and hit the sign to remove them from the Network panel.

    • Work-around 2: Uncheck the Atmos Renderer connection in Peripherals->Dolby Atmos.

    • Work-around 3: Connect to a Renderer.

  • Dolby Atmos: Tracks are not properly time-aligned by real time bounce to ADM or multi-stem wav (PT-282856)

Edit Groups

  • "Include Rulers" in edit groups – a selection will be lost when dragging clips.

Elastic Audio

  • élastique [Elastic Audio] warping is not working correctly if used on small selections. This is a design limitation. It is suggested to use this on entire songs or longer selections, or to use polyphonic instead. (PT-299616)

macOS

  • HD Driver (DigiDal.kext) sometimes must be "Allowed" twice in Privacy and Security after install on Mac OS Ventura (once during install and again after reboot). (PT-300715)

  • Ventura (Intel only) - Running Spotlight on macOS Ventura can impact Pro Tools playback performance. (PT-289806)

  • The impact on Pro Tools is worse in recent macOS releases because of additional tasks now performed by Spotlight such as parsing images for image recognition. To avoid performance issues, do one of the following:

    • Exclude any folder or drives from Spotlight indexing and parsing that may be causing Spotlight to parse files during audio playback. This is particularly relevant when parsing large image or video files.

    • In the Terminal, run ”sudo mdutil -a -I off” to turn off spotlight until the next reboot. Consider running this command when you know you will be using Pro Tools on startup.

    • To permanently disable Spotlight, in the Terminal, run “sudo launchctl unload -w /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.metadata.mds.plist”.

  • Ventura + Monterey - System Sound can cause streaming errors. To avoid, turn off  “Play user interface sound effects” in the “Alert and Sound Effects” section of System Settings. This will not turn off all 3rd party application notifications, and so it is also advised to go into each application settings/preferences and turn off notification sounds to avoid this issue. For example, go to Outlook’s preferences, “Notifications and Sounds” and uncheck the “sounds” item. (PT-291656)

  • Pro Tools hangs after activating via iLok Cloud - Ventura specific. Requires a Pro Tools quit and relaunch (PT-296160)

  • Pro Tools Audio Bridge: (Monterey and Big Sur) Core Audio preferences may become corrupted, resulting in lost audio from VLC player and inability to adjust AMS speaker config (THP-2978)

    • If encountered, trash the following preference files:

      • /Library/Preferences/Audio/com.apple.audio.DeviceSettings.plist

      • /Library/Preferences/Audio/com.apple.audio.SystemSettings.plist

      • ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.audio.audiomidisetup.plist

    • Then either reboot the machine, or use this terminal command to restart Core Audio and rebuild the preferences: sudo launchctl kickstart -kp system/com.apple.audio.coreaudiod

M1 Mac

  • When Pro Tools is running under Rosetta on Apple M1 machines, performance errors (-9171, -9093, -6101) may occur when adding plugins during playback. This should only be encountered when you first insert a plug-in, If you encounter this issue, reinsert the plug-in. (PT-286724)

  • Conversion glitches importing m4a files (Mac Studio M1 Ultra) (PT-295937)

  • Apple M1 machines can kernel panic if an HDX chassis is disconnected while the computer is on or the computer is put to sleep (PT-273586)

    • Disconnect HDX chassis only when M1 is powered down

  • Constant -9093 errors with HD Native PCIe (in either Sonnet or Magma chassis) on Mac Studio and MacBook Pro M1 2021 (-9093 in CGreenPackerUnpacker(3): pioErr = 1)(PT-286974)

    • Workaround (does not always work: shut down entire system and pull power cord from chassis. Start afresh. Never just restart the Mac (or shutdown / startup the Mac only) - power cord needs to be pulled from chassis every time.

Apple Silicon

  • AAC Import does not work with Apple silicon. At present this is functionality is Intel only.

  • There is no ReWire support for Silicon

  • While the rest of the AIR bundle has native support, Structure free is Intel only.

  • Melodyne is Rosetta only, and will not install with Pro Tools if Rosetta is not already installed. Effects Air-Gapped systems only (PT-300227)

  • AVE is Rosetta only, and will not run on an air gapped system. Pro Tools (if connected to the internet) will install Rosetta. If not installed AVE will not run.

S6

  • Avid S6 Mic Pre - preamp controls are frozen/emptyafter Open -> close the I/O setup tab (S6 only). (PT-300751)

    • If encountered, open/Close I/O setup again (this may fix the bug for affected channels, but also may break other channels)

Sync X

  • Sync X firmware 1.2.x functionality can be incompatible with previous releases of Pro Tools. (PT-297590) If Pro Tools is exited with 10mhz clock as Video Ref Gen Source, and then a version of Pro Tools that doesn’t support 10mhz Video Ref Gen Source is opened, Sync X will be stuck in Video Ref Gen Source - 10mhz mode. If there is no 10mhz source connected, there will be sync problems. Workaround:

    •  Disable 10mhz Video Ref Gen Source in standalone mode.

Windows

  • On Windows 10, HDX not Available if Waves Soundgrid DAW Node is running (PT-283934)

    • End Task on Waves SoundGrid DAW Node Service after each restart

    • Uninstall the full driver/software from waves central

PlayCell Palette Series

  • PlayCell graphics are not loading, and plugin presets are not writing. (XUJAM-190) This issue has been identified as an intermittent permissions issue and a fix is in the works which will be posted ASAP.  Current workaround:

    • Delete the ~/Users/XXX/Documents/Pro Tools/Plug-In Settings/PlayCell folder

    • Launch PT and insert PlayCell, close

    • Reinstall Palette Series

  • PlayCell: Assigned MIDI CC are lost when switching or reloading presets (XUJAM-187)

  • PlayCell Palette Series: (MAC only) Presets will be installed in the Pro Tools default Documentation & Settings location: /Users/username/Documents/Pro Tools/Plug-In Settings/PlayCell. If another location is set in Pro Tools Preferences, the Palette Series preset folder needs to be placed there manually, next to the factory folder. (PT-300849)

  • PlayCell Palette Series: (MAC only) Installer might take longer than expected initiate, up to 3 minutes. (PT-301188)
