This is the first in a four-part series with Brent March on the Waves CLA Signature Series plug-ins. Brent looks at all of the individual drum channels in this first video and uses the plug-ins on different inserts across each drum channel. The Waves CLA Signature Series comes packed with six plug-ins, including Drums, Bass, Guitars, Vocals, Unplugged and Effects. The application-specific effects characterise the favoured sounds of Grammy-winning mixing engineer Chris Lord-Alge.

CLA Drums is laid out very nicely. There's an input slider, bass, treble, compress, reverb, gate and output. On top of these sliders, you have specific buttons that adjust certain frequencies. Finally, there's a small knob that you can adjust depending on what type of drum you're mixing or mastering.

Mixing drums can often be difficult because drums span multiple frequency bands, and a lot is going on in terms of overall dynamic range. CLA Drums can definitely help to compress and adjust specific frequencies in a mix. It's very easy and simple to use and perfect for beginners and experienced professionals alike.
