MacBook Pro 2021 Geekbench Benchmarks Show Impressive Results For Pro Users

The first Geekbench benchmarks for the new Apple MacBook Pro 2021 are in and they make for impressive reading. The headline is that the new M1 Max powered machines are only beaten by some Mac Pros and iMacs using Intel's high-end Xeon chips.

Given that the new MacBook Pro now supports higher memory, larger GPU and more ports, it’s likely these machines will be widely adopted by both audio and video professionals. Orders for the new machines were beginning to overwhelm Apple within minutes of the new MacBook Pros going on sale. Delivery estimates have slipped from 1 week to up to 8 weeks in some cases overnight.

Here are the scores for the new MacBook Pro using the new M1 Max Apple Silicon chip with 32GB of unified memory.

You may have noticed that this report is from a machine that is running macOS 12.4, which MacRumors have seen in their analytics, and we understand that Geekbench's John Poole believes the result is legitimate. He initially said there was an issue with the frequency estimation, but he believes that this is an issue with Geekbench and not the processor.

For reference here are Geekbench scores for the top performing Apple Macs.

As can be seen, the new Apple Silicon powered MacBook Pros are outperforming some of the iMac Pro and Mac Pro models.

We should start to see more M1‌ Max and ‌M1‌ Pro Geekbench results appearing in the coming days as the new MacBook Pro models are delivered to customers from next Tuesday.

Given this is the second generation of machines to use the new Apple Silicon chips, one can only imagine the future of Apple Silicon powered computers once the refreshed Mac mini, iMac, and Mac Pro models are launched.
