Mac Expert Says 2023 Mac Pro Is Worse Than Expected

Long term Apple expert Max Tech says the 2023 Mac Pro is worse than he expected. Furthermore, after selling his 2019 Intel Mac Pro and purchasing the new 2023 Mac Pro for $8000, he thinks he has made a mistake.

Max Tech opens the video with these words;

“I spent $8,000 on Apple's New Mac Pro, and after testing it for the last week and comparing it to the Mac Studio and to my Intel Mac Pro, this was a mistake.”

The Verge has interviewed numerous professionals and concludes;

“Apple’s latest Mac Pro targets professionals with highly demanding computing workloads. But we talked to those professionals, and they don’t want it — because Apple’s other computers are just too good.”

In our recent analysis of the new 2023 Mac Pro we wrote;

“Apple has become a victim of its own success. The Silicon processors are a modern-day technological miracle, performing way beyond what Apple ever achieved with Intel chips. They use less energy, generate less heat, and for that reason, make less noise because fans don’t need to work as hard. This means that the Mac Studio is the computing equivalent of a Ferrari for the price of a top-end BMW. They are, for a lot of audio professionals, the perfect machine.”

Monica Chin, writing for the Verge decided to ask top professioanals what they thought of the new 2023 Mac Pro;

“I wanted to know whether Apple’s purported target demographic — people who spend their days animating, making visual effects, and doing various other tasks generally associated with big, powerful computers — were actually interested in purchasing this machine. So I asked a bunch of them, and the answer, basically across the board, was no. Not because the Mac Pro is bad but because Apple’s other computers, namely its laptops, have just gotten too good.”

Max Tech explains the real problem with the 2023 Mac Pro for professionals, namely that it doesn’t make any economic sense when compared to the Mac Studio with an external chassis;

“We tested the Mac Studio and I did a dedicated video comparing all the performance aspects of those. It really does not make sense to pay that much extra just for some cards that you can run externally. And then for PCI Express 4, well now we found out that the bandwidth is limited because Apple didn’t even put multiple controllers in for those slots.”
