In this article and video, Paul Maunder demonstrates just how quick and easy it is to search for, audition and import sounds into a project using Soundly.

With access to a sizeable, cloud based sound effects library, Soundly provides the convenience of a fully searchable, high quality collection of sounds which can be accessed from any computer with an internet connection. Sounds can be auditioned, and navigated using the waveform view at the bottom of the Soundly interface.

Once you’ve chosen a sound you like, importing it into your DAW of choice is as straightforward as clicking the Send To button. In the examples shown in the video, I demonstrate using it with Pro Tools but it also has integration with Logic, Premiere Pro, Nuendo, Cubase, Reaper, After Effects, Wwise and Final Cut Pro. Sounds are placed at the cursor location in your project or session.

When auditioning sounds, you’ll inevitably encounter occasions when you only want to bring in a portion of the chosen sound rather than the entire duration of the file. In this case you can make a selection in the Soundly waveform view before clicking Send To. Alternatively, make a timeline selection in your DAW and Soundly will import the audio file and trim it to fit the timeline section when you click the Send To button.

The majority of sounds in the Soundly library are 96kHz, 24 bit with others being 44.1Khz and some are even 192kHz which can be useful if you need to time stretch heavily. You can import your own collection of sound effects and Soundly provides the functionality to catalog them with full metadata and, if required, upload them to the Soundly cloud so you can access your own effects from anywhere. You can also use your Amazon S3, Dropbox or Google Drive storage for your library which is a great option if you already have an account with one of those services.
