Find Of The Year From Community Members

Kevin Dallas

My find of the Year is the Pro Tools Expert team.  After reaching out to you with my Podcast Bingo/Drinking game I think it's become a hit. Updates for 2020 include…

  • Eli - Logic, Slippers, Basement, Mac OS

  • Audrey - Recording an obscure instrument, buying a church

  • Emma - Dialectual mispronunciations. ADR, Freelancing

  • Alan - S1, Avid Control App

Moving onto some tech - my find of the year is my SanDisk 1TB SSD with USB-C

Earlier in the year I was working on some really big sessions and having issues with playback, bouncing and my external (spinning) HD disconnecting. This one purchase has really sped up my workflow, and of course, has no moving parts so is great for taking on the road.

Last, of all, I can’t recommend Backblaze enough. One price, unlimited backups. Always backing up in the background.

It saved me when a drive failed, and saved me again when I left the aforementioned Sandisk at home when I was at a facility to review with a client. I downloaded my session from Backblaze and was up and running before the client arrived.

Firstly, thanks for this great resource. I look forward to Wednesdays far more than I used to. As there are normally three people in each episode, I'd like to propose three Finds of the year.

  1. My Townsend Labs Sphere microphone. I'm a bit of a mic whore-der (Like James) and this has become my go-to mic for virtually (See what I did there) every application.

  2. White coconut Toblerone. It's amazing. Just like eating chocolate coated in suntan lotion. Try some...

  3. The Production Expert site, resources, videos and podcasts.

Merry Christmas and God bless the lot of you !!

Fredrik Frostengren

I think Swedish handclaps is the find of the year. :-)

Robotic Bean’s Hand Clap Studio VST, AU and AAX plugin is a dedicated VI for handclaps and finger snaps. Whether you want soft and dry finger snaps for your delicate acoustic song or hard-hitting claps drenched in reverb for your trap track, Hand Clap Studio has you covered with just a few tweaks of the controls.

What would you like to find under the Christmas tree on Christmas morning?

Mike - A new Mac Pro 7,1 -  I could never justify buying one but I would love to have one in my computer cupboard.

Julian - I’m going big! The 9.1.6 Atmos rig in Blackbird Studio C “Sitting in the middle of fifteen large-format ATC monitors and six ATC subwoofers is a life-changing experience!”

Dan - Presonus Quantum 4848

Source Connect Now

As you may know, we are spread out around the UK, Europe and the US when we record the podcast. In the past, we have used a variety of internet-based solutions so we could hear each other.  We have settled on Source Connect Now which gives us ISDN equivalent quality audio using a Chrome browser, no software to install. You can get a free account from Source Elements.

Find Of The Week Kindly Sponsored by RSPE Audio Solutions

RSPE Audio carries nearly every great microphone you can think of, from budget to boutique. They have microphones from Sennheiser, Neumann, Earthworks, Shure, Lauten, Peluso, AKG, Blue, Townsend Labs, Antelope, and many more. Not sure what mic you need? RSPE’s team can help! Just tell them the work you do and they can recommend a few mics, plus if you’re in LA, you can book a demo so you can try them out before you buy.
