Become A Zooming Ninja In Pro Tools

In this tutorial Julian Rodgers looks at the various ways you can zoom into and out of information in Pro Tools, from timeline zooms through track, waveform and MIDI from the keyboard and using the mouse.

Pro Tools can display anything from an overview of a long form project spanning hundreds of tracks all the way down to individual samples in an audio file. Being able to quickly manage how much information is displayed and being able to quickly adjust this is a core skill in and DAW and in Pro Tools there are several essential techniques which are must-haves for anyone using Pro Tools.

In this video see how to:

  • Toggle the Universe Window using Opt/Alt+Num7

  • Horizontal Zoom using Opt/Alt+Scroll

  • Zoom Out to fit horizontally using Opt/Alt+A

  • Zoom in to fit Editi Selections horizontally using Opt/Alt+F

  • Zoom horizontally in/out using CMD+[ or ] (Ctrl on PC)

  • Zoom horizontally in/out using R or T in Command Focus

  • Use and store Zoom presets and access them from the keyboard

  • Adjust Track Heights individually or in groups using the mouse or keyboard

  • Zoom Out to see your whole session both horizontally and vertically using two keyboard shortcuts

  • Zoom MIDI to fit the track height using Ctrl+CMD+Shift+[ (Start+Ctrl+Shifrt+[ on an PC)

  • Use Zoom Toggle to zoom in and out on edit selections

  • Zoom audio waveforms using Option+Shift+Scroll (Alt+Shift+Scroll on a PC)

  • Reset waveform zoom to default using Ctrl+Opt+CMD+[ (Start+Alt+Ctrl+[ on a PC)
