Avid Showcase New Pro Tools Features At IBC 2023

This week at IBC 2023 in Amsterdam, Avid has announced that they are previewing some new features coming soon to Pro Tools workflows including integrated Dolby Atmos Renderer and iZotope Spectral Editor integration using ARA 2. We have the details.

Integrated Dolby Atmos Renderer In Pro Tools

During IBC2023, Avid is showcasing its ongoing partnership with Dolby to support development, including a preview demonstration of Pro Tools with an integrated Dolby Atmos® Renderer, for immersive audio, showing how a future version of Pro Tools will be able to eliminate complex Dolby Atmos related configurations. Instead, users will be able to configure a mix for Dolby Atmos on both macOS and Windows-based Pro Tools systems with the Dolby Atmos Renderer integration. Pro Tools sessions will be able to retain all your mix data, ensuring users and facilities have compatibility across projects and seamless collaboration.

ARA 2 With iZotope RX Coming To Pro Tools

Avid will preview Celemony ARA 2 technology to integrate iZotope’s RX Spectral Editor directly into Pro Tools. This will enable users to be able to clean-up audio, without the need to hop out of Pro Tools into iZotope RX and then bring the treated audio back into Pro Tools from RX. iZotope’s RX Spectral Editor displays unwanted audio imperfections visually to enable easier restoration and clean-up.

Francois Quereuil, Vice President, Product Management for Audio and Music Solutions, Avid told us…

“Users go deep into their creative zone when they step into Pro Tools every day. Our job is to preserve that domain for them, making sure they get to remain there and be productive as long as possible without distraction. What we’re demonstrating with our IBC2023 previews is that Pro Tools is evolving and innovating at a much faster clip to become the gravitational center for everything audio engineers need to accomplish with their workflows, whether enabled by Avid tools or third-party offerings.”

Deeper Pro Tools and Media Composer Interoperability

Avid will also be showing tighter integration with their Media Composer video editing software and Pro Tools. Avid told us…

“Steady introductions of new technologies are helping customers to surpass their expectations for collaboration among audio and video editing teams and the outstanding content they can deliver together.”

Avid will also be showing some of the new features introduced recently into Pro Tools, including how Pro Tools Track Markers can improve the workflow between Avid’s video and audio editing software tools so that teams can have tighter collaboration notes. Track Markers added to a Media Composer Sequence along with detailed, colour-coded comments now appear at Pro Tools track positions, so sound editors and mixers can navigate quickly around their work.

There will be demos at IBC2023 featuring the new Pro Tools | MTRX II audio interface, Pro Tools | Sync X master clock, Pro Tools | HDX DSP system, Avid S1 console and Avid Dock.

The Avid MTRX II has been designed to push the limits of high-end audio environments by expanding on its predecessor’s reputation, with 256 channels of Dante and SPQ filters for room correction across a full 64-channel Theatrical Dolby Atmos monitor environment. Both the Avid MTRX II and MTRX Studio now support Thunderbolt 3 connectivity using the optional Thunderbolt 3 card, which Avid tells us will be shipping soon.

Note that the Thunderbolt option card supports up to 256 channels on MTRX II or 64 channels with MTRX Studio, allowing users to interface directly to host computers running native Pro Tools, other DAWs or audio processors whilst simultaneously being connected to Pro Tools HDX over Digilink.

Integration of MTRX II with Thunderbolt, in conjunction with the EUCON enabled S1 and Dock control surfaces, has been designed to provide deep control of Pro Tools and other Audio Apps while also providing full Theatrical Atmos monitoring and massive Dante connectivity to other devices.
