Avid Shock Eleven Rack Users With Update - Catalina And Big Sur Working

If you want Avid Eleven Rack to work in macOS Catalina or Big Sur then we have some good news for you.

It seems those who thought Avid had given up on the legendary Eleven Rack can think again. Yesterday Avid published a knowledgeable article with the following Eleven Rack updates.

  • Supports macOS Catalina (10.15.7) and Mojave (10.14.6)

  • Supports Pro Tools 2021.3 and above

  • Tested with Avid-qualified Apple computers

  • Check the Pro Tools Operating System Compatibility Chart to see qualified OS versions for Pro Tools

This update means that many Eleven Rack hardware users can continue to use Eleven Rack with more up-to-date operating systems such as macOS Catalina and Big Sur (see below)…

Change Clock Source And Sample Rate Outside Of Pro Tools

Installing the new Drivers will allow you to change the Clock Source and Sample Rate outside of Pro Tools.

This is useful if the Eleven Rack is not your main Pro Tools interface but is connected to another interface via S/PDIF or AES/EBU.

Update Fixes Playback And Double Monitoring Issues

It has also been reported that today's driver update fixes the Pro Tools playback issue on macOS Catalina as well as the double monitoring issue where the Guitar Input isn't muted when opening a session on macOS or Windows.

Eleven Rack Working In Big Sur

In our tests, the Eleven Rack update would install on macOS Big Sur and Apple would even allow it to pass the driver security exemptions. We tested both input and output and Eleven Rack is working in Big Sur, although it is unsupported by Avid.

Notes:

  • Pro Tools 8.0.1 or higher required to use Eleven Rack with Pro Tools

  • Pro Tools 8.0.5, 8.1.1, 9.0.2 (or higher) required to use Pro Tools with Eleven Rack Expansion Pack

  • USB 3.0 Ports not supported with Windows 7 (more info)

User Response

On the Eleven Rack Users Facebook group, the news was greeted with both shock and joy!

Comments included;

  • “Yup. I'm buying another one now.”

  • “I posted a while ago, had communication with Avid support, they said they were working on it. I trust them, they said the engineers had it in development. This is AWESOME!”

  • “OMG. Did Avid just restore my faith in them? I think they did!!!!!!!!!! Wow. I'm in shock. A good shock though. I own two 11Rs. This will get me to buy more of their gear in the future for sure now. Just to reward them.”
