Audio Interface That Knows Your Room Sound

Anubis is Merging Technologies’ Ravenna equipped audio interface which gets a significant update that users of Sonarworks SoundID Reference might be very interested in. We have the lowdown.

Anubis And SoundID Reference

Ever since its release in March 2019, the Merging+Anubis networked audio interface has brought together astonishing audio performance and interfacing with monitor control, and Ravenna and AES67 network capability. This premium device comes in a desktop style unibody enclosure driven by a Retina-grade TFT touchscreen interface.

For the uninitiated, SoundID Reference is the speaker and headphone calibration software from Sonarworks that applies compensatory EQ to iron out any anomalies of your room and/or monitors and headphones.

The big news is that SoundID Reference users can now run it on the Anubis hardware as a third-party add-on at no extra cost. This is significant because it means that SoundID Reference processing can be applied even without a computer present. Regardless of whether you use your Anubis standalone or with a computer, it also means that correction can be applied across anything that hits the interface- not just your DAW audio.

From The Developer

Sonarworks, the company behind precision audio software used by Grammy-Award-winning engineers recording top artists like Lady Gaga, Madonna, Rihanna, Adele and Kanye West, announces its partnership with Merging Technologies, one of the world's foremost manufacturers of high-resolution digital audio recording systems. Sonarworks’ popular calibration software released earlier this year SoundID Reference (previously Reference 4 software), will now be included in Merging Technologies’ interface and system controller - MERGING+ANUBIS, marking the first hardware to enable SoundID Reference correction outside of a computer. This partnership will provide a seamless workflow for music creators and engineers to experience accurate sound correction at the lowest possible latency on multiple outputs simultaneously.

Anubis is an audio interface presenting mastering grade speaker and headphone outputs, Merging's acclaimed Mic Pres and Line outs, as well as a complete monitoring engine. Everything is controlled from the built-in touchscreen and/or from any tablet or computer. Now with SoundID Reference enabled, it's the first time Sonarworks’ calibration software can be used solely through a piece of hardware without being tethered to a computer. Music creators can now mix with confidence regardless of the source they are listening to, whether that be a computer, DAW, live mic, etc., by producing a flat, consistent sound wherever they work from. The calibration software operates in the background to remove unwanted coloration, delivering accurate studio reference sound at the lowest possible latency.

“We’re excited to take this step forward with Merging Technologies to deliver the first-ever SoundID Reference enabled hardware that doesn't require music creators to use a computer to leverage our calibration software”, said Martins Popelis, Co-Founder of Sonarworks. “Together, we’re improving the production process with accurate, high-quality sound that creators can trust."

“It was always our dream to add productivity and utility features to Anubis and this partnership with SoundID Reference exactly fulfills that”, commented Claude Cellier, Merging’s Founder and President. “So many of our customers will welcome the ability to easily calibrate their listening environment where Anubis is already their critical monitoring unit.”

SoundID Reference runs on both the Anubis Monitoring Mission and the Music Mission with a simple firmware update. For more information head over to Merging Technologies and Sonarworks.
