Apple Silicon Native Pro Tools Public Beta Announced

Today on the DUC Avid announced a fully native Apple Silicon version of Pro Tools which will be available as a public beta this month.

As reported in our article Pro Tools Coming For Apple Silicon Soon, on September 28th 2022, Avid put out several messages saying this;

“Now that this important Pro Tools 22.9 release is done, the Pro Tools team is focused on delivering native Apple Silicon Support (M1 and M2) in the near future for customers on active subscriptions and support contracts.”

It appears that progress has been made, as evidenced by the text of the post on the DUC:

Hi everyone,

Towards the end of this month, Avid will release the next full version of Pro Tools, and it will include a public beta that enables Pro Tools to run it natively on Apple M1 and M2 processors.

The plan is to deliver an official and qualified native Apple silicon-supported version in early 2023, but because we now have the core Pro Tools app working natively, we decided to give early adopters the chance to run it in a public beta. This way if users choose, they can test the improved performance on their M1/M2 machines before the fully native version gets released in early 2023.

For M1/M2 users who choose to toggle-on the public beta, some features and plugins will become unavailable. We are also working with all our 3rd party partners to get their silicon compatibility completed as quickly as possible. A full list will be made available upon its release later in December.

This full December release will be available for all Pro Tools customers on an active subscription or running a perpetual license with a current Software Updates + Support Plan. Users of our free version, Pro Tools Intro, will also be able to test the public beta.

Stay tuned... More info to come.

This is very welcome news to anyone who uses Pro Tools and has an M1 or M2 powered Mac. While the situation is vastly improved over what is was some months ago, the standard advice applies of checking that all the plugins you need to use are available as fully native versions before running the full December release when it becomes available.
