First Silicon Apple Mac Event Rumoured For November 2020

There are a growing number of rumours that Apple is planning another event to announce the first Apple Silicon Arm powered Mac computer. After the no-show on the October event, rumours are now suggesting a November event. We share everything we know…

Following up on the Apple series 6 iWatch and iPad Air event, as well as the more recent iPhone 12 and HomePod mini event rumours, are growing that Apple is planning another event to primarily to announce the planned Apple Silicon Arm powered Mac computer. Back in June at the virtual WWDC 2020 event, Apple promised that an Apple Silicon-based Mac would be released before the end of 2020, this we know and it looks like Apple are gearing up to do this in November, although there's no guarantee at this time, because the devices that are still on the horizon could also come out through a press release.

If they are planning an event then predicting a possible event date in November is not without some problems. November 3rd is election day in the United States, November 11th is Veterans Day, and November 26th is Thanksgiving in the United States and Apple normally give all their corporate employees that week off.

If Apple does hold an event, we would expect to see invites during the first week of November with an event to take place on November 9 or 10 ahead of Veteran's Day, or more recently there has been a rumour suggesting that Apple is actually planning an ‌Apple Silicon‌ event for November 17th, however for some that date is getting awfully close to Thanksgiving just a week later, but Apple doesn't have a lot of other options during November.

Apple Leak source Jon Prosser isn’t totally reliable. In August 2020, he claimed that new Apple Watch and iPad models would be introduced via press releases. In September 2020, he narrowed down the day of these press releases to Tuesday, September 8, but no products were announced that day. Instead, Apple sent out invites to its "Time Flies" event, where it did introduce new Apple Watch and iPad models a week later. On the plus side, in September 2020, leaker he said the Apple Watch SE would come in 40mm and 44mm sizes, lack an always-on display and ECG functionality and start at $279. Also in September 2020, he said an eighth-generation iPad would be unveiled at Apple's "Time Flies" event, but no new iPhones or AirPods Studio headphones.

What Apple Silicon Mac Will be Announced?

This is another unknown. Bloomberg's Mark Gurman has said it will be a notebook, but rumours have conflicted on what type of Apple notebook it will be, whether it will be a new 13-inch MacBook Pro, a new MacBook Air, or a revived 12-inch MacBook. Mark’s track record has been good. In August 2020, he accurately reported that Apple planned to introduce multiple subscription service bundles under the name Apple One. Then in September 2020, he got it right again reporting that Apple's "Time Flies" event would be focused on new Apple Watch and iPad models, with no new iPhones. Finally, again in September 2020, he correctly reported that a lower-cost Apple Watch model was coming at Apple's "Time Flies" event. This proved accurate with the announcement of the Apple Watch SE.

Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo believes the 13-inch ‌‌MacBook Pro‌‌ and ‌‌MacBook Air‌‌ will be updated with ‌Apple Silicon‌ chips before the end of 2020, which doesn’t give much time, while the Chinese language newspaper ‘The China Times’ claims the first ‌Apple Silicon‌ Mac will be a new variant of the 12-inch Retina MacBook weighing less than one kilogram (2.2lbs) and with a battery life between 15 and 20 hours.

Other suggestions are that the first Apple Silicon Mac will be a new 24” iMac to replace the 21.5-inch ‌iMac‌, and the launch of both of these significant redesigns would be an ideal time to unveil fresh new Apple-designed chips.

What Else Could Apple Announce In The Rumoured November Event?

It is expected that the Apple Silicon will be the key announcement for the November live event, but it is also possible that Apple could choose to use this event to announce some other new products.

macOS 11 Big Sur

It had been expected that macOS 11 Big Sur might have been released on October 13th, but when that date passed it is now being suggested that the most likely release date for macOS 11 could be the Apple Silicon focussed November event. After all the Apple Silicon Macs will need Big Sur to run them so it would make a lot of sense. Only time will tell…

AirPods Studio

Apple is rumoured to be working on some Apple is planning to add high-end over-ear "AirPods Studio" headphones to their product range with some rumours suggesting that they may be ready to launch before the end of 2020. There was speculation that ‌AirPods Studio‌ would show up at the October event, but in the end, they were a ‘no-show’. So some are suggesting that these headphones could be announced during the November event.

That said Jon Prosser is suggesting that these are already slated by Apple for the next Apple event which he says will be on March 16th 2021!

Rumours suggest that the pricing will start from $350, ‌that the AirPods Studio‌ will feature Active Noise Cancellation and a retro-style design that could involve both a premium model made from high-quality materials and a sport-oriented model made from breathable, lighter-weight materials.

‌It is also being suggested that AirPods Studio‌ could feature magnetic ear cups and headband padding that can be changed to give a customisable look, similar to the Apple Watch bands, as well as features like ear detection so there's no right or left side when wearing the headphones.

AirTags

There have been rumours flying around about Apple's Bluetooth-based item trackers for well over a year now, but precious little about when they might be announced. It would have made sense to unveil the AirTags alongside new iPhones given how they will work together but that didn't happen so maybe this time?

That said, Jon Prosser is putting the AirTags in the same category as the AirPods Studio suggesting that the AirTags won’t be released until March 2021.

Apple TV

As with ‌AirTags‌, rumours about a next-generation Apple TV have been floating around for months, if not years, because we haven't had a new version of the ‌Apple TV‌ since 2017!

It is being suggested that Apple is working on multiple ‌Apple TV‌ set-top boxes, including one that has an A14X chip designed to offer console-like performance.

However, as with the AirTags and AirPods Studio, it is by no means certain that we will see an Apple TV announcement in November. This is because back in August 2020 Bloomberg reported that a new ‌Apple TV‌ might not be ready to launch until sometime in 2021.
