Logic Pro X Fans Hoping Next Version To Be Apple Watch Only

Some Apple Logic Pro X fans are hoping the next version of the flagship DAW will be on Apple Watch Only, pioneering a new segment of Watch Audio Workstations.

In what could be a world-first, rumours suggest Apple could give Logic Pro a unique place in the market. The story started after an eagle-eyed Apple fan, who could have been making music but instead decided to spend days reading the underlying code to the software discovered a reference to Apple Watch in the Logic Pro codebase.

It is suggested by some that this could be a step closer to a world where macOS and iOS are a single unified operating system. However, no one had considered that Apple might shock everyone and jump straight to watchOS for the next version of Logic Pro.

Features are sketchy at present but could include;

  • Siri vocalist - Have Siri sing perfect vocals for you. Whilst the part may be in tune the lyrics could be random. For example were a user to ask Siri to sing the line “I’ve got you under my skin.” it is likely that Siri will sing “I need you under the bin.”

  • iProduce - Have John Appleseed as your virtual producer.

  • Airpods Pro Pro - A special studio version of Airpods that includes a high-quality vintage tube microphone that allows you to record to Apple Logic Watch.

While the concept of Logic Pro being on the Apple Watch only may seem absurd to most rational people over the age of ten, Apple fans were embracing the possibility of such an idea. According to the Apple fan web site www.itsthelogothatmatters.com, one fan said; "Expect the dinosaurs to be complaining about this. If they want to carry on using a computer and common peripherals and cables, then that's their lookout. I love the idea of being able to make music anywhere I have my arm.I get tired of all these complaints about practicality." Another fan was equally excited about the idea; "No one else is trying to squeeze all the complexities of a DAW layout into a watch screen. I think in a few years everyone will be talking about WAWs (Watch Audio Workstations) instead of DAWs. If Apple are first then they may win the WAW Wars.”

As Apple moves to more mobile, power efficient and smarter technology, it is suggested that the wearable recording studio would use both gestures and Siri for control. One commentator thinks that the idea may bring more creativity back into music production. Frank Hank from Boston-based design agency 'Little Big Medium Small Great Average Bacon' said; "Music production has become derivative and often lacks the random nature that gives it excitement. Anyone who has experience of using Siri will know that the results of a Siri request are rarely what is expected. So one could hope to write a Hip-Hop track and end up with some Death Metal... as ever Apple is thinking outside of the box." He continued; “Imagine asking Siri to create a drum beat and instead getting a full orchestra score… now that’s exciting.”

Apple has a long history of making bold design moves over the years that has included removing floppy drives, user serviceable parts, and other connectivity from their products, which means that overnight Apple users have had to throw away perfectly good hardware that no longer work with newer Macs. As one MIT professor observed; “No other electronics brand has done as much in creating environmentally friendly products whilst increasing the need for landfill at the same time. That takes innovative vision to achieve.”
