Synchro Arts Release Revoice Pro 4.2 - We Have An Exclusive Demo Video

The developers at Synchro Arts have been hard at work, improving Revoice Pro. Version 4.2 is now available, with a host of useful workflow improvements and features.  We have an exclusive demo video showing the new Revoice Pro 4.2 scale detection, warp editing, and formant shifting features in action.

Scale Detection

This new Warp Region feature analyzes the audio and determines not only the correct key but also the associated scale or mode. The pitch grid along the vertical axis on the left conforms to the scale/mode, so that pitch based warp edits snap to the nearest scale tone. This is a fantastic feature that not only speeds up tuning but also allows for some creative experimentation with melodic phrasing.

Redesigned Warp Tool Workflow

Prior to V. 4.2, using the Reset, Join, and Smooth editing tools required first selecting the appropriate tool, then selecting the notes to be modified. Carrying out these routine functions are now no longer tied to individual tools, but instead, are accessible as menu or shortcut commands. So, we simply make our selection and invoke the associated key command.

Select one or more notes, press W, and they will be instantly tuned, now to the nearest scale tone. J will join selected notes, M will smooth the transitions between selected notes. And R (I assigned Shift R instead, so as to leave R available for zooming) will reset the properties of the selected notes. All without leaving the Warp region view and breaking your editing flow.

Adjust The Part Of The Notes Used To Calculate The Average Pitch

Revoice Pro displays a Blue bar across each note when working in Warp Regions. This is used to calculate the average pitch of the note and is used as the reference point for tuning and transposition. It is now possible to slide the blue bar handles and reposition it to use a different part of the note to calculate the average pitch. This is particularly useful when working with notes containing deep vibratos, or held notes that slide between pitches. We can now choose which portion of the note is used as the pitch reference.

Slip The Start And Ends Of Notes

Revoice Pro has always done an excellent job of detecting the beginnings and endings of individual notes. We can now further control this using the new Editing preference “Show Slip Controls.” Blue handles become visible at the edges of selected notes. We can slide them left/right to edit the split point between notes. This is particularly useful when tuning or transposing, as we can now create smoother transitions by determining precisely where the pitch changes will happen.

Display Changes

Group functions are now no longer cluttering up the Warp Region contextual menu by default. They are now toggled on/off in the Editing page of the Preferences Window. In previous versions of Revoice Pro, the vertical scale on the left displayed note frequency in Hz. This is now disabled by default and moved to the Editing preferences as well. The Anchor position options (Note Start & End Pitch, Note Pitch Center) are also relocated to the same menu, leaving the Contextual menu populated by the most frequently and regularly used functions.

Formant Shifting

The Audio Performance Transfer (APT) panel now provides us with the ability to shift formants on output tracks. This is a tremendously useful feature. By lowering the formants, we create a thicker denser sound, without actually altering the pitch. Conversely, raising them on output tracks creates a slightly lighter “higher” sounding timbre, again without actually altering the pitch.
