In this free video tutorial, Production Expert team member Julian Rodgers demonstrates how easy it is to use Soundgrid Connect to route audio across a Soundgrid network using the free Soundgrid Studio application.

No Hardware Necessary

Soundgrid Connect has often been promoted as a way to incorporate an external DSP server into an existing, non-Soundgrid setup. The DSP servers from DiGiGrid or Waves offer an excellent way to run Soundgrid plugins from Waves and third parties such as Sonnox, Plugin Alliance and Flux on external hardware and using the clever eMotion mixer and StudioRack plugin is it easy to switch from DSP to native and back seamlessly.

Exposure To The Soundgrid Network

To communicate with a Soundgrid server Soundgrid Connect exposes the ASOI/Core Audio interface to the Soundgrid network and because the Soundgrid Studio application and the associated Soundgrid Driver are free to Waves users this connection to Soundgrid networks is available for anyone to try without needing any Soundgrid specific IO or servers

In this demonstration Julian builds the simplest possible Soundgrid Connect network, routing a mic via a Focusrite Scarlett Solo, across a network to the outputs of a Universal Audio Apollo, thereby building a network tie line which could route audio between two rooms in a facility. This is similar to building a software-only Dante network using Dante Via. While Via works very well, one obvious benefit of Connect is that unlike Via it doesn't involve a cost per licence, per machine. There are of course more involved applications which could be envisaged. How do you think this could be used in your work?
