In the Production Expert 10th Anniversary Christmas Competition we offered the chance to win the Krotos Sound Design Bundle, worth $999, comprising of Krotos’ ground-breaking Weaponiser, Reformer Pro and Dehumaniser plug-ins.

The competition closed on December 31st 2018 and we are pleased to announce that the winner of The Krotos Sound Design Bundle is:

Brian Haas

Brian is a post-production audio engineer, sound designer and composer in Los Angeles, California, primarily focusing on short-form content, providing mix and sound design on spots for Google, AT&T, YouTube, Vice and Sonos. IHe has also written music on campaigns for Spotify and Pepsi and is currently providing mix and sound design for the UFC at Killthemessenger studio in Santa Monica. Brian comments:

“I plan on using the Krotos Sound Design tools to expand my sonic palette and transform my existing sound collection. Being able to modify audio to match a particular on screen action is critical, so I am always eager to explore tools which allow for new and interesting sonic exploration. Thanks so much!”

More About The Krotos Sound Design Bundle

Weaponiser

Weaponiser is a weapon sound design plug-in. With the rise in use of CGI, even on lower budget productions, depicting the use of weapons in a production has become much easier - instead of having to have a trained firearms department to safely use blanks and real weapons on set, it is now possible to add muzzle flashes, impacts and cartridge ejects in post-production. In some cases the entire weapon is CGI or the production is sci-fi or period, so a working version of the weapon doesn't even exist. It's this latter category that also covers game sound design.

Reformer Pro

Many times, I've been in a mix or a sound design session and we've reached an impasse. No matter what we do to the sound, it doesn't match with what the director has in their head. Most of the time, the discussion reverts to the director "performing" the sound, then asking us, "Can you make it like that?"

Reformer Pro by Krotos Audio, promises to change all this by bringing live performance back to sound design.

What Do Krotos Audio Say About Reformer Pro?

You do your best sound design work when you can manifest what you hear in your mind. Reformer Pro offers a whole new way of interacting with sound.

  • Analyse sound libraries with our Analysis Tool.

  • Perform sounds in real-time via the world’s first Dynamic Input – using a microphone, MIDI or directly from the UI.

  • Replace or add texture to pre-recorded audio in your DAW.

  • Automate your audio directly from the timeline.

  • Select or mute any sound from within your libraries.

  • Perform impacts and add extra definition using our unique Transient Engine.

  • Create constantly evolving soundscapes and variations.

Reformer Pro allows sound designers, producers, musicians and performers to design, automate and perform any sound in real-time, like never before.

Dehumaniser

Krotos describe Dehumaniser as a Modular Node Based Creature Sound Design System. I couldn't have put it better myself!

The plugin has nine processing nodes....

  • Pitch Shifter

  • Delay Pitch Shifting

  • Granular

  • Noise Generator

  • Scrubbing Convolution

  • Flanger / Chorus

  • Ring Modulation

  • Spectral Shifting

  • Sample Trigger

You can have up to two instances of any of these nodes in any preset, giving you a possible 18 instances. The input can be split eight ways, with independently adjustable gain. These can be routed in serial or parallel, and can have up to five outputs each with independently variable output gain. These are the controls for the Scrubbing Convolution Node. On the input every node has a gate, and on the output every node has an EQ and Limiter. You can really absolutely tailor the sound you want from each node, in great detail. On nodes such as the scrubbing convolution or the sample trigger, they have included a library of 100 animal recordings for you to base your creations on. These built-in samples can be easily augmented with your own.
