Designing and building an outhouse soundproof recording studio in your garden is not a project for the faint-hearted! Last year I completed my very own studio build. Trust me when I say it takes months of planning, copious amounts of mental & physical grit and of course a generous budget to invest that would far exceed the cost of most high-end kitchen refits in order to get a studio that will not only performs as planned but also works as a soundproofed room.

When more affordable timbre structures are used as the starting point of a soundproof recording studio, such as mine, the key is to install as much mass as possible within the structure. Of course, a room within a room configuration will also need some serious consideration in the design stage as well to help reduce airborne and impact sound vibrations transmitting from within the studio to the outside world and vice versa.

Last year I promised The Production Expert Community a video that would show my entire studio build. Sadly, time hasn’t been on my side this year as I’ve had a lot of client commitment. In this short six minute video you will see how Tom approached the room within a room method and floating floor along with how he built his soundproof doors and how he installed his internal studio glass partition.

You will also learn of the materials that Tom chose (such as Tecsound and rockwool) and how he applied each within his design to achieve a soundproofed studio.
