Would Abbey Road Studios Tune The Beatles Vocals If They Recorded Today? Perhaps So...

It almost feels like sacrilege to use the words vocal tuning in the same sentence as the Beatles, given the almost religious reverence given to the Fab Four by many fans, especially those music makers who have been inspired by them.

So the news that Abbey Road Studios, the legendary London based recording studio, held in equally high regard has announced that they now offer a vocal tuning service does beg the question, would they have tuned the Beatles vocals if they had the technology?

Some people get hot under the collar when the idea of vocal tuning gets mentioned and respond in ways that make one think you’ve just suggested you boil a puppy for fun, so for some the idea of doing it to the Beatles is on par with the idea of giving the Pope a spray tan.

Let’s set aside emotion for a minute and consider why many of the Beatles recordings so admired. Yes, they wrote fantastic tunes, but they also harnessed many of the leading technologies of the day to create the sound. In some cases, they worked with talented producers and engineers to invent new techniques to achieve that end.

It’s a conundrum to consider…what do you think?
